The cicadas seem to be hit-and-miss. I live in central Maryland not too far from DC and I haven't heard or seen any. But about 20 miles north in PA they are really loud. Another 20 miles farther north, not a peep.

My next door neighbors brother told me when he was at basic at the grenade training part, they were standing at attention and a deer fly landed on his buddy infront of him, so he touched the bug and it bit him, the guy jumped like a bomb went off behind him, he smacked where the bug bit him, well the Drill Sgt. couldn't chew a man out more then that guy got it...

*Could* I stand at attention? Why if it meant a dishonorable discharge and prison time if I didn't, yes, I could stand there at attention with a monkey crapping on my head.

One thing you DON'T do is break formation while standing at the bottom of the steps awaiting the CIC to walk down.

that sucks.....Paris Island Marines have to stand at attention for hours while chunks of their skins are being chewed away by sand fleas.

I've been in formation were it was 110 degrees and people were dropping like flies before. It's the best feeling in the world when you finally hear "RIGHT FACE" "RIGHT SHOULDER ARMS" "FORWARD MARCH"

Every bone in your body achs......you lost feeling in your feet about an hour ago....and because your shoes are paten leather (extra shiney) and black your socks feel like the insides of your shoes feels like your cooking at 350.

Gots to say been their done that didnt keep the t-shirt.

Cicadas don't bother me at all. In Phoenix we had a HUGE outbrerak of them when I was around 12 ( are they like every 14 years?)

We had so many in our trees..,.man have you guys heard how loud thousands of those things can be?

I used to catch them and throw them at my sister:) The cats really loved eating them too. They don't bite or anything.....and they are easy to catch by hand.

Cicadas are nothing.

The only thing that is remotely bothersome is when you have billions of them in the trees doing their treacherous buzz song from hell.

17 years is the massive influx Nuke, but theres still quite a few that come out every year.

Easy to catch by hand, foot, mouth, car grill, etc. They struggle to just stay airborne.

The most fun thing to do is catch them, take those poppers (things in rice paper you throw agains the ground and pop), tape them to the cicada, light the "wick" end on fire and let the bastard fly away.

Last August I remember seeing one lone cicada dogfighting two or three hungry sparrows. It was great - the cicada died a horrible death... buzzing while inside the beak of the winner. I hate those things with a passion. They look like friggin aliens and annoy the crap out of me when I'm trying to sleep in.

LOL! I remember that sick crunching sounds the cats made when they ate them

Reminds me, we ( as kids) would collect them and put them in coffee cans...then kick the can down the street.......buzzing like mad.
