Wondered why I had the feel of rubber bullits and slight delays on my joystick. Wondered how my gunnery changed to crap, even though it's more difficult in AH2.

This also might help FRs' to those using ATI cards.

I used the ATI File Player to play AVIs' and MP3s'. Didn't think much of it.

While looking for an answer for the above questions...I decided to check my soundfiles (I use Mitsus soundpack) Lo and behold I find that because I was using the ATI FIle player it converted all my soundfiles into ATI AVI files thus causing the Video card to pull double duty!

Uninstalled all ATI hardware and reinstalled the latest Omega drivers.

Works great now!

Suggest if you're using the ATI File Player to check your soundfile extensions. If they're AVI etc. from the ATI Fileplayer uninstall the fileplayer at once.

dammit

I have my sounds saying ati..

but last tiem i "triedD to install the omega drivers..I crashed my whole system...

Any other way to do this?

No other way...as a matter of fact after uninstalling the ATI File player it did not change the extensions on my sound files.

I had to uninstall Aces High II....saved my settings folder though.
Downloaded the complete latest version of AH2, reinstalled and then copied my old settings file and pasted it to AHII remember to copy your settings folder before uninstalling if you do so.

Darned ATI File Player...who'd a thunk it

err i thought ATI was gfx cards? why would a gfx card be doing sound?

They install software that you can use like a media player...I have not experienced this as I use Win Med player....but im sure it is possible

what do you mean they "Converted" the files to ATI?

You mean a ATI player was setup to "Open/Play" wav files? Couldn't you just reset this to the default player, telling ATI player not to worry with your audio files?

Eagler....did that after uninstalling the ATI File Player.

Then....I selected windows Media player to play sound files (wavs)

Even after uninstalling the file player...they still had the avi extension with the ATI icon.

Some apps are pretty stubborn, software like AOL or Real pretty much grow roots in your system and won't come off easily...

don't know how often ATI apps control the file type ownership, but Winamp has a setting that checks its assigned filetypes each time you start it.

The direct way to windows would be editing the registry by hand, but you can go in Folder Options > Files Types and change it there too.

Long way to go about changing file extensions. For future reference, right click on 1 of the files you want to change and choose "open with"...then select the application you want to use in the future, put a checkmark in the box "always use....". VOILA...changed application association in a flash.

Sorry guys, been loading drivers only here on ati since shortly after I got mine 15 months ago.

I hate software that trys to tell me what I want to do with what.
