Why don't you...

...show up for Friday Night Snapshots?

I'm curious.  I hear all these calls for a 'Historical Arena' and talk of 'immersion', but not even 20 people showed up for last night's snapshot.

(...or Sat or Sun events for that matter.  I don't show up for those, though.  There are always too many other things to do on weekend afternoons.)

I don't think so.

There were over 200 people in the MA before and after the event.  Those are the people I'm asking. (edit) well, them and everyone else, too.  I'm sure there are alot of people who are doing something else on Friday nights.  I'd like to hear that as a response, also.  But certainly, the MA last night was quite populated, and the SEA wasn't. Because the event did not contain elements that interest me.

anrky: How many of those 200 knew there was an event going on? How many of them knew how to get there? How many knew when exactly it was going to start? How many of them were willing to drop everything they were doing to jump into another arena at a preset time?

How many of them were mostly worried they'd be stuck listening to people reporting in at tower and CO's handing out orders? In special events that can be really timeconsuming.

You can't compare special events to a 24/7 arena.

I was in the MA several times during the day/evening reminding players of the Snapshot and it's start time.

How many of them were willing to drop everything they were doing to jump into another arena at a preset time?

Theres the rub, I see people asking for a HA but until we show a strong and constant interest in events it won't ever happen.

How many of them were mostly worried they'd be stuck listening to people reporting in at tower and CO's handing out orders? In special events that can be really timeconsuming.

I asked for and got two volunteers to CO the respective sides and had them in the arena 30 minutes before start time setting up their flights, other than a last minute change of the Allied CO we started with a minimum of delay or hassle.

You can't compare special events to a 24/7 arena.

As I said above - without strong community support for these small events I doubt HTC would want to allocate the resources for a 24/7 Historic Arena.

I think MrSiD is right. I know some of the event coordinators come into the MA and announce the events, but many do not pay that much attention to the text buffer or have it turned off completely.

I think a good solution would be something similar to what AW had. When you login, you are taken to the "HQ". A virtual bulletin board of sorts could be there that shows upcoming events with associated times and descriptions. This would definitely make people more aware of what's going on outside of the MA.

What do yall think?

I think the HQ idea has alot of merit.

I don't understand why people equate event participation with support for a Historical Arena.  The event times make it difficult for many people (including me) to attend.  In fact, that's one of the reasons I'd like an HA - because I can so rarely make the scheduled events.

The PTO '43 HA in Warbirds was one of the most popular setups.  We'd regularly have 30-40 in the HA on Wednesday evenings.  A lot of that popularity had to do with Squad CO challenges between historically-based squads.

1. How many of those 200 players had #1 squelched? Lets say scratch 30.

2. How many of those were in the tower or paying attention to broadcast messages that weren't in blue? Lets say scratch another 50.

3. How many of those have a proper understanding of what an 'event' is and why a non-blue name would be announcing it? Lets say scratch another 30.

Your 'average' player doesn't know what an event is, doesn't recognise it as significant through the lack of 'official' presentation (your 'average' gamer probably avoids the hell-on-a-stick that is the plethora of disorganised documentation occasionally referred to as the hitechcreations.com website), and is not really 'in tune' with the plans for the night.

They probably don't want to log out and spend 'who knows how long' (<< prediction of gamer mentality rather than actual opinion, and subject to being utterly wrong like an opinion of mine) waiting for 'who knows what' (same disclaimer =) to start.

I think, actually, a lot of players mistrust 'events' they don't have to sign up for the same way they mistrust players logging in to the MA and asking for someone to join their H2H session... I suspect some players even may even confuse an 'adhoc' event with a sort of large H2H bash.

Ugh very negative. I think: Majority of players don't really understand where 'events' fit into their gaming experience or how they are run and what they are about.

I *think* your HA players then suffer from the very thing that is stopping HTC running a HA arena - they won't play in an arena which is ("more") historically accurate but only contains 20 other people.

I poked my head in to see it was NOT historical terrain in the Fri. night snap shot.  Then I left.

Uhm.. terrains are not historical Ripsnort.

They are either geographical locations or fantasy land....

As far as I know the physical location and basic geography of Europe hasn't changed a whole great deal between 1945 and 2001.

I was in the MA and i saw nothing about the snapshot and as usual i forgot about it untill the SEA players came into MA saying how good it was!

Again we see the assumption there is little interest in a HA because snapshots attendance is low but i say BS.
I LOVE snapshots i just forget while im playing in MA and usually miss the starts.
Also being in the UK the timing is quite tricky.PLUS ITS FRIDAY NIGHT!!! I WANT TO GO OUT  .recently ive been stuck indoors so ive been around on a friday but its not a good night if you want my honest answer.
We need to have snapshots all week or rotated on different days.
Give us a HA!! how is it different to running the DA which is barely used? If theres no interest then fair enough cancel it but please dont say we cant have one because we miss a friday night or saturday because we out socialising!

Excellent suggestion.

SW, what I was speaking of is the historical terrain the community has created, was not in the Snap Shot, the same ol' Main arena SMF whatever terrain was being used.
