Radio chatter on range vox
« on: May 29, 2004, 09:29:42 AM »
Pert of this is froma  post I made on another forum but deserves attention here.
Alot of whines are made about Chan1. To haveit. not have it or whats being typed on it

A bigger problem for me is the Vox. Not the cussing but people holding general conversations in the middle of a battle and not being able to get a word in edgewise.
An example is the  other night I spotted a several goons headed to a feild under heavy attack and no matter how hard I tried I couldnt get the word out cause two clowns who obviously hadnt seen each other in a while were hogging up the range channel with lengthy a conversation on how each other and each others family was. End result is the goons were finally noticed by someone but it was already too late.
Now that was far more frustrating and annoying then anything I've seen on channel 1.
Please save general conversation for long flights and/or when the skies are clear

Not to mention and no offence intended but Some of you folks need to learn an economy if words on Vox. At least when in the middle of a battle That is saying what you need to say in the fewest words possable. And some need to learn to be more discriptive in what they are trying to say  and seems to run from one extreme to another
 Example of poor economy..

"There are several groups of B17's at 22 thousand feet  comming in from the northwest with P51 scorts"

Too long.. wayyyy too long

Opposite example

"B17's high"
Well thats helpful isnt it?  Tells you next to nothing other then there are 17's in the area.
First. How high is high? If your in a GV or at 1 K then even 5 K is high. but thats low to someone who may be hanging out at 10K

What direction are they comming from? Is there anything else we should know? like do they have escorts?

Ideally It should probably be done something like this
"3 groups of 17's northwest at 22K with scorts"
Or even
"17's with scorts 22K"
is better

At least then you know to look high. or low depending on your current alt.

Simple, direct, to the point and doesnt hog up the range channel making it possable for other people to  relay what may be important info also such as the 3 goons spotted who tried to do a roundabout and sneak in from the north.
