Looking to get back into AH but my old puter just won't hack it.  I have a guy I work with willing to sell me one. 3000amd,,,, a7nd8x delux mobo..512 mem,,,,9800 pro vid card,,,,wd 80 gig hd w/8meg buffer..cd/dvd ,,,card reader,,,,floppy.,,system has xp home.   He's asking $400 for it.   Will this system run AH2,,,,,,fair deal?

Looks like an ok deal, Thing's to ask is how's the cooling?(How many fans? etc) and How big is the power supply?
It will run ah2 just fine.

It has only 1 fan,,,,,350 watt power supply.  How many fans do I need?  350 watt power supply ok? I always had intel systems before.

For 400 bucks?  Thats a GREAT deal assuming everything is in working order.

9800 Pros are 200 bucks, AMD XP3000+s are 100+ bucks, Asus A7N8X deluxes are still 100+ bucks, so he's throwing in the RAM (about 100 bucks), case (40 bucks), DVD burner (80 bucks), HD (75 bucks) and card reader (30 bucks) in "for free".

Grab it, NOW (again, assuming everything works) and make sure he gives you the CD for WinXP Home (or just go out and buy yourself a copy of XPHome/Pro for 90-130 bucks).

400 bucks is a great deal for that set up ..

it would cost ya around 600-700 to build that one right now with a fresh cd of xp .

the 350watt ps is alittle weak and it should have 1 or 2 case fans added for good airflow (Amd's dont like heat )

Ive got the same system but with a 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ specs and it plays games Great .

My 2 year-old Dell recently suffered a motherboard failure. Naturally, the MB is no longer available... And, the MB was proprietary for that specific case (cabinet).

So, I bought a new ASUS MB, 3.0 gig P4 and a new case. I moved over everything else. Then, I found my older version of XP was crashing on start-up. Rather than install the latest version on the old drive, I simply bought a 40 gig Seagrave hard drive, loaded the latest and greatest version of XP and slaved the original to it. Everything on the original drive runs fine, plus I now have 120 gigs of drive space. I had to reinstall some drivers, and a program or two, but it was generally fast and painless (and I'm no computer geek by any stretch). Added another fan too.

Everything came to just over $400 and this baby simply flies. (See specs below).

I bought the computer.  It has a fresh install of win xp ,,,,,,,,,registered to me along with the disks and updates.  I always ran 98 before so this is not to familar to me yet. I'm still looking for a joystick.

I find that a real stress free way to change a drive. Buy a new one, install OS, slave old one. It's a bit expensive. I did this when I upgraded to XP on my work PC and it was great. I could even boot the old win 95 drive if I wanted to do some work before I had the new one up and running.

Yes I went from Win 95 to XP. I feel quite proud to have skipped about 4 generations of Windows:D

Gaming machine started on XP of course. Doesn't matter a toss if it goes belly up, except I'd rather it didn't

great deal....get xp pro and format the HD to get rid of his problems and call it brand new....o theres nothing wrong with another 512mb of ram;)
