We should have seen this coming...

A HISTORY OF ABUSE AND NEGLIGENCE Reuters WASHINGTON -

President Bush has said he was disgusted by the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. Yet, there were many cases of abuse in Texas when he served as governor from 1995 to 2000. For example, in September 1996, guards at the Brazoria County jail in Texas staged a drug raid on inmates that was videotaped for training purposes. The tape showed several inmates forced to strip and lie on the ground. A police dog attacked several prisoners; the tape clearly showed one being bitten on the leg. Guards prodded prisoners with stun guns and forced them to crawl along the ground. Then they dragged injured inmates face down back to their cells.

In a 1999 opinion, federal Judge William Wayne Justice wrote of the situation in Texas state prisons: "Many inmates credibly testified to the existence of violence, rape and extortion in the prison system and about their own suffering from such abysmal conditions."As Governor, Bush oversaw the executions of 152 prisoners and thus became the most-killing governor in the history of the United States. In one particularly egregious example, Bush executed an immigrant who hadn't even seen a consular official from his own country (as is required by the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which the US was a signatory).

Bush's explanation: "Texas did not sign the Vienna Convention, so why should we be subject to it?"

I love how the Governor is called the executioner after a trail and what 7 to 10 years of appeals. The Perp. is found guilty by a jury and sentenced by a judge but lets blame the Gov. yep its all his fault.

I for one would like to see more of the toilets in our society flushed to be rid or these 10 time losers and if a judge or Governor wishes not to due what there citizens ask of them they need to go.


Please give me a break

bottom line ...prison is bad, very bad..... don't go to prison, you do have a choice

one may agree that they need to be 'flushed' but do you really think it justifies abuse ?

we shouldn't stoop to such a low level, regardless of the level of criminality.  Justice? YES, abuse NO.

Not if you are Iraqi, 70% of those detained have done nothing wrong

Six please read my post, study the part about judges and also juries. I was speaking about our prisoners not those in Iraqi.

I do not condone any inhumane treatment of anyone, I also object to the political nature of the reporting of there events.

Interestingly enough, that prison in Brazoria was run by a Contractor, not the TDCJ.  They were all prosecuted and jailed, I might add.

If you think prisons are different anywhere in the US, then you don't know watermelon about prisons.

I've heard of worse stuff at frat initiations than what those Iraqis went through.

Red Tail,

The Iraqi's beat and tortured U.S. prisoners during the first Gulf War, and they've done the same in the latest.  They were doing it YEARS before news of the current prison scandal broke.  They didn't need the scandal as an excuse.

without waisting precious life seconds to read the obviously tilted article, Bush was calling the shots for abuse at Texas prisons and was personally responsible for the abuse in Iraq prisons.  Too predictable.

Somewhere in a prison in Texas is the guy who murdered one of my best friends from school.  Murderers get what they deserve in prison.  Especially in Texas prisons.

I still dont see a scandel.   The abuses were reported and investigated prior to the pictures being released.....


wow scandelous

same thing in texas.....abuse took place.....investigation happend.....things were changed.....wow scandelous....the system actually worked.
