Any Il-2 players out there?
« on: June 02, 2004, 03:15:24 PM »
Does anyone here play Il-2? How does it compare to AH? What are the game requirements? It seems the arenas are limited in numbers, so how does that work out?

Thanks in advance!

I play Il2:FB:AEP.

To get the best graphics, I'm not sure the type of system needed. All it adds are pixel shaders to make the water look hyper realistic.

For me, I play on the highest graphical settings spare the "Perfect" landscape (which gives the nice water) with playable frames (20 to 50fps).

My system:
Athlon XP 2000+
768MB PC133 SDRAM (o/c to 135)
260Mhz FSB
Epox 8KTA3+ Pro
Nvidia GF4 Ti4200 64MB
Creative SB Audigy LS (with quadraphonic speaker setup)
WinXP

Online the games range from between 8 players and 32 players. There are certain servers that I only play because they offer the hardest/best difficulty options that I like to play on. They also rotate maps based on certain scoring criteria. How many planes are lost on one side, pilots killed on one side, vehicle or armor % destruction etc. Most of the combat is fairly concentrated either around the bases or over specified battlefields that have ground targets to destroy to cycle the maps. The maps also feature planes that were over that area, Normandy has 43 to 45 US, UK and German planes. Hungary has Hungarian, German, and American planes, and etc. Actual combat occurs between 6000 meters down to the deck. Average is around 2000 to 3000meters.

If you have any questions or want some screenshots of something specific, lemme know.

So is there any cost to play online? If so, is it worth it?

Thanks

The only thing you buy is the game, everything else is free.

Wonder if they will ever be able to get rid of those player limit numbers. Or atleast extend them to around 200.  Now that would be something to take a day off work for. :D
