How good is your power supply?, how many things are running off it?, did you install DX9?

It is definitely driver issues. Never ever install drivers that come with the card. Uninstall all of the previous drivers and go to ati for the newest version.

I did install the drivers with the card but I installed the new ones too

xp or 98? Often it is a good idea to go into safe mode and uninstall any video drivers there, then reboot and let the system find the card/install the newest drivers.

Another aproach, would be alot more time consuming. Reinstall a fresh load of your OS and install only AH2 and current drivers. This will be the way I go when AH2 comes online. I am running 30-45 frames now and want to see a comparison with the fresh install.

Sorry you are having a hard time with your 9800 Pro. The advantage to spending the extra $80 at CompUSA is that you can take it back if you can't get it to work with your computer. I hope you figure out your problem. The 9800 Pro is a solid card.

THanks again guys... As to reinstalling the OS NO! lol... I have had to do that 3 times the last month before I finnaly got virus protection.. as to the card I got AH 1to run

You might wanna check the card again, virtually every "9800 Pro" that is under the $200 mark no matter if it is made by sapphire, gigabyte or whoever has a 128Bit memory interface,It clocks at 325/580 instead of 380/680 which the 9800 Pro 256bit version runs at. It also only uses a 128 bit memory interface, instead of 256 bit, so it is MUCH slower, ie half the pipeline. According to Skuzzy these cards should be labeled 9800LE

Sorry Streak but your card isnt a 9800 PRO even thought it is labled as such. Notice the 128-BIT thats why it only cost $164, it doesnt have anything to do with it being a non retail non ATI built card. The reason that particular card and pretty much any 9800 "Pro" cost less than $200 is b/c they are throttled down with 1/2 of the memory bandwidth

Ya, dont waste your money on one of them package deals. You'll either be languishing in unplayable frame rates or forever chaising the playable frame rate $$$. Take your time, set your budget, research your subject and carefully weigh your options.
I suffered with compaqs for 6 years before I actually took time to look past the advertised CPU speed and find out why my computer could really never keep up with the visual games.
Finally built one, it only cost 1400 bucks, that includes the 200 dollars for the wqindows xp. I still remember the first time I plugged in IL-2 and peed myself with glee at the fantastic graphics. In ah the smoke filled battle royales at the airfield was now steady at 30fps 1280x1024 res.
Anyway, you get the picture. Visit the hardware section in this forum and ask around, some of those guys are grade A techs and always willing to help.

Well, I got mine at $211 before the $170 prices were listed... I can assure you that mine is clocked from the factory at 378/337.5x2==>380/680.

Good catch on the cheaper one's being 128-bit, never saw that on ones not listed as SE's. Anyway, I would still buy it online for $200 over buying a 9600XT for $150. Much better card for insignificant price difference. CompUSA has been taking turns with BestBuy putting retail Pros on sale for $200, but you gotta pay tax
