Rook hord?
« on: June 04, 2004, 10:24:11 AM »
I think it's just a matter of more Rooks from AH1 coming over to AH2. I fly Rook in AH1 and will in AH2.(probably...lol) I realize it's beta and nothing really counts, but alot of people have country loyalty and just don't want to switch to another country that the've come to despise. Maybe the Bish and Nits should work on getting more of their country to come over to Beta. Btw...the times I have been on the numbers haven't been that 1 sided. 18, 12,20? 25, 19,30? thats not a huge difference. Yes it may be a bigger difference at times, but not that often from what I'v seen.

I think its just a matter of people actually opening their eyes and not bieng so blind.

As stated many many times before in the past, all sides have hordes.

But we, as people, just need another reason to complain.

So true lazs ... but what does that have to do with Chess pieces.

The 13th moved to Knights to fly with the BKs (because of "like" people). The 13th has moved to Rooks to also fly with "like" people. It was my recommendation to change. There are some quality people who fly for the rooks and I wanted the 13th to be able to wing with them. So far, its been great.

Like Morph pointed out, we have no allegiance to a chess piece, we do what we want to better enjoy the game and in these particular cases, it was to fly with "like" minded individuals.

I've been playing these games as long as just about anyone, and the axiom 'Birds of  a Feather, flock together" is true. While some are more loyal to their chess piece than others. There is a very tightly knit core of Rooks that stuck it out throughout the dark ages, when it was sport for Bishops and Knights to see how quickly they could reset the far numerically inferior Rooks. For those that stayed Rooks, there developed an intense loyalty to country and to one another which parallels any real life military unit subjected to harsh combat conditions.

Now, a year or more after Rooks took their 6 month+ arse beating, they instituted RJO's and a highly organized inter-squadron system of co-operation, the numbers have evened out, and all those galvanized by the fire of getting gang-raped daily are still Rooks for the most part.

Bishops usually have numbers during the morning and daytime US central time, Rooks during prime-time, and Knights late night. The perception that Rooks have huge hordes is likely a result of RJO's, squadron co-ordination in general, especially on Sunday nights, and the fact that Rooks have numbers during prime-time US time when there are far more total people online to feel the impact, observe it, and whine about it.

As far as Rook numbers in AHII is concerned, I have flown for all countries under one name or another. One thing is clear, Rooks have a higher percentage of adults than the other two countries, especially Bishops. The high pitched squeel of Bishop pre-pubescents on vox is proof of this. Most Rooks I know personally in AH or from long years in AWFR are in their 40, 50's and beyond. These people can generally afford the necessary upgrades and probably already have very beefy systems able to easily handle the requirements of AHII. On the other hand the 13 year old'ish demographic of the AH population can probably not afford to upgrade or purchase a beefy, higher-end system capable of playing AH2.

Obviously, I'm generalizing here, but you get the idea. Every country is going to lose a percentage of it's player base to AH2 based on prohibitive hardware requirements, I think Rooks will just be less impacted than the other two countries, so will appear to have greater numbers as they have in beta thus far.

I spent almost 5 years in AH (over 4.5 actually) rotating the chess pieces every tour or at least every other tour. Let me tell you, they all suck! Find a good squad and fly for the orange team, if there are any green icons out there you can trust and work with then remeber their names and reciprocate. We just stopped the rotation a few months ago, not because we found the most wonderful side to fly with but because we wanted to get to know the fellow green-guys a little better.

On the subject of hoarding...I flew in AH1-MA for about two hours last night when the nits were piling up in a 3-6 versus 1 attack on one of the eastern channel islands (pizza). It is true, the nits were HOARDing the rooks. I was most suprised they they kept it up so long and did not leave to go find another undefended base ( to you guys for the fun fight).

Regarding the hoarding in the beta MA...our squad left the AH1-MA to go play AH2. When we got there the rooks had a 3 player advantage on the bish and a 6 player advantage on the nits. So we wall switched to nits (shudder), that made the odds in the AH2 arean almost dead even. Of course everytime I ran into any rooks they were in a pack, which only proves you don't need an arena majority to be a hoarder. Right Lazs?
