Shiny Skins?
« on: June 04, 2004, 04:23:33 PM »
question for the skin gurus here:

Is it possible - in AH2 - to have a shiny skin like we see below?  I've seen snake skins, leather skins, etc.  Wondered if maybe you guys could recreate the shiny chrome look somehow?

It's possible, but since we don't have chrome planes, we don't put a chrome finish on them.

Pyro,
I humbly request a chrome (or, whatever material it is) plane - preferrably a Jug.    That would look amazing in a massively multi-player arena.  :D

Doesnt' exist.  The planes weren't chrome, they were natural aluminum which looks nothing like the above screenshot.  Take a look at a book on the subject with a lot of color photographs in it(Warren Bodie's book on the P-47 has a ton of color photographs in it).  Thumb through one at a bookstore if you don't have one and reference a picture that looks anything like that pimpmobile above.

It's cool looking, but has no basis in reality.  I guess it's the flight-sim equivilent to all those petite big boobed babes in RPG's.  You'd think cosmetic surgeon would be a player class in those games.

:rofl

I've seen polished aluminum P-51s at air shows, which are pretty bright and shiny, but I agree, they prolly weren't like that on the front lines in WWII.

A polished P51 is cute, a polished Thunderbolt is like Mike Tyson in a tutu.

Plus, as Pyro said, not WW2 style.

That's hardly something I'd get pissed about.  I just think it's anachronistic at best and completely bogus at worst.  Polished aluminum can be made pretty shiny, but I don't think it can be made to reflect with that little diffusion.

I agree it is a pimp mobile.

I want my planes looking rode hard and put away wet. Oil streaked, chipped paint, replaced panels of a different shade, dirty, oxidized, scratched and a step away from spare parts..

That being said.

That pimp mobile sure makes purty wallpaper :D

On that note, any chance for a very flamboyant P-51 with feathers and blinking lights?
