New PC for AHII Suggestion... under $800
« on: June 04, 2004, 05:40:16 PM »
here's a link to a Dell (i know, i know)...

the problem i'm hearing is alot of people don't have thousands to spend on a new PC... and therefore can't play AH after II goes live.

this PC below can have a GeForce AGP video card and a soundblaster card (both NON-integrated) for under $800. this comes with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard even. take off $50 if you dont want a monitor.

just wanted to show that it is possible to easily get an upgraded PC that will play AHII for not alot of money. i'm sure if you looked out there you'd find other options too.

i hope you people who dont have the PC to play AHII look into something like this. it would be a shame to lose you.

I just bought a Dell GX270.  Its a decent PC, little on the expensive side.  Well, more than I'd usually pay for a PC, but it'll run most of everything out now:

http://outlet.us.dell.com/Dispatcher?target=InventoryPage&action=filter&lob=OPTI&model_search_and_display=OptiPlex%20GX270&tgtSeg=I&srcType=xml&srcDetail=compare

It works great for a system under $1000.

I for one would advise against the Dell.

I have always had Dell products after my SONY VAIO HELL experience.  I really like Dell....My laptop is Dell and my current system (until my new one gets here in a few hours:aok )....

Anyhow...if you find you want to do tweaking for overclocking or even do minor changes in your BIOS...you are pretty much screwed on that end.  Guess what...the proprietary BIOS they put on there will not let you tweak like you would want.

I know because I cant do this with my 2 year old Dell.  Perhaps Dell has changed but I seriously doubt that.

Dont get me wrong...I like Dell stuff....but for gaming....steer clear in my mind....build it yourself or go with a firm that sets it up for you and lets you know the whole story on BIOS etc.

My 3 centavos!

You can't beat building you own. I had 2 Dells and still have one. IMHO they are junk. Their service has gone to watermelon faster than grass in a goose.

They use junk to build them and they are still junk at the finished end.

Build your own. For 800 bucks you can have a very nice system.

You can also check with your local pc shops. I upgraded my comp for 500$ and got it back the same day.
