The skin has limitations and this is the best I can do.  You will have to decide if a backwards "P" and Southern Cross is acceptable on one side.  If it is, maybe HT could take a look and see if this P-51K skin is worth closer inspection before I go to the trouble of submitting it.

Machnix  -  can you use other letters ?  eg U, I

The CV was squadron designation - I've seen photos of a K P and J  - there must have been U's and I's

The souther n cross I can live with  -  can't speak for HTC  - I guess send it to them , see what they think :)

Redd,

The issues are:
1. There is only one wing – one upper, one lower surface.
2. Only one horizontal stab surface that is mirrored top, bottom, left and right.
3. Only one fuselage half with small "detail" areas such as where the "CV" is placed.

Another letter such as A, H, I, M, etc. can be used IF there was an actual aircraft with that letter - you have to prove it.  I have had a skin rejected already for this.

Maybe HT will take a look at this post and give some guidance.

Pyro,

What is HT's policy on mirrored items such as the backwards "P" in the above P-51D?  As a skinner, I try and use only paint schemes that will work on the model.  Redd asked for a RAAF color scheme and this was the only example that was close to fitting.  I don't want to submit the skin unless you think it is worth considering -- no sense in adding to the backlog of skins.

Thanks,
MachNix

FWIW, I had an F6F (mirrored fuselage sides) accepted with the number "101" instead of the historically correct "145". I mentioned this fudge in the email BTW.

That seems a logical stance to take when the skinners are working with the limitation of the mirroring.

As I mentioned  - if there were K's P's and J's  - it's very likely there were U's and I's

eg CV- I

Redd,
Went with CV-Y and used the same paint scheme as CV-P that was shown earlier.  I think the "KH807" looks acceptable mirrored.  If you think this skin looks okay, I'll submit it.

Only thing you might want to look at is the roundels on the wings - were they red white blue  ( without the yellow circle) ?

Redd,
I was basing the wing roundels on Greebo's link: http://galacticvoyager.com/cgi-bin/mod.cgi?id=03-50052&c=111
You can just make out the wing roundel in your black and white image of CV-P and I don't think it has any white.

Some other things I notice from you image is my tail emblem is backwards – should be red-white-blue – and only the front of the spinner is red.  I'll get those things changed and pack it off to HT.

You are probably right - have seen some hpotos of the roundels on the wings done that way now that I've looked closer.

The roundels and fin flash are all listed and exaples here

http://cocardes.monde.online.fr/v2html/en/pays/royaume_uni.html

paragraph below describes the scheme delivered in the kittyhawaks at the time - very likely  applied to the P51's as well

Initially the Kittyhawk Mk.IIas were in the Desert camouflage of Dark Earth and Midstone upper surfaces with Azure Blue (usually) lower surfaces. These colours are thought to have been applied at a M.U in the Middle East as it is believed that the aircraft were manufactured in the Temperate scheme in the U.S (as were the earlier P-40Es). Spinners were all painted Red as per DAF (Desert Air Force) orders with serials in Black. Roundels on all these Kittyhawk Mk.IIas were the standard RAF types for the period (ie 36" C1 Fuselage, 40 " B type Upper wing and 36" C Lower wing) with appropiate Fin flash.

I can't see what you have used under the wing  -  sounds like the type C  would be correct.

Thanks again
