Request favour - ANZAC Skins
« on: June 04, 2004, 08:04:12 PM »
Any of you talented skinners that could knock together some way down South Pacific skins would be much appreciated.

There was a couple being worked on early on, but I haven't seen any finals yet

P40
Spit5
Spit9
mossie
p51

are some planes in the current plane set that flew RAAF

Caldwell's CROC  spit V is quite well known    (I think someone may have been working on it)

and the Kiwis (NZ) had some Hogs and Hellcats I think as well as the others listed above - that would also be excellent for us -  - particularly the hellcat  :)

I'd love to do it but I'm graphicallly challenged.

I'll make sure someone buys you a few fosters at the Con  :)

PS Il-2skins.com has quite a variety of aussie and kiwi skins to check out.

Redd,

Here is a P-51D done in a 5th AF / 348th FG / 342nd FS motif that operated out of the Philippines in 1945.  Is it what you had in mind?

I have not submitted it to HT – yet.  I have been waiting to see what will happen with a couple of already submitted skins.  I'm sure they are busy getting AH2 ready and I certainly don't want to flood them with skins if they aren't interested in the work.  But maybe someday this skin will be available.

When the Typhoon/Tempest skin gets updated, I might do a 486 Sqn RNZAF skin.

Redd,

You have a P51D you would like to see, put up an image or a link to a web site and I see what I can do.

The southern cross on the rudder looks great

Machnix

This link should be really handy lots of great information on colour chemes etc from some modellers

http://www.kitparade.com/features00/p51bbg_1.htm

To summarize on camo vs silver. the first mustangs delivered and flown were in RAF camo  brown/grey , the aussies added rudder and other squadron markings.

Later in the war they didn't bother with the camo , used the silver , just adding the rudder, squadron and other markings.

In the different black and white photos i linked you can see examples of both

Hope that helps

more photos of some models

we  had  D's and K's in many squadrons btw   - so if they say K  on a model it should be ok as the D's and K's would have been painted the same

the thumbnails are handy for the detail

Didn't the Aussies have fly some captured La-7s in the Battle of Cape Woolamai, 1943?

Hmm I saw some Russian tourists at Cape Woolamai  once but I'm pretty sure they weren't flying an LA7, might have been driving  a captured Lada

Have you got a picture of one of those LALA's.  Sounds like a truly strange moment in history. Russians would have done you a favour in taking over the country in 1943, aye comrade!
Oh how I've changed I was Auscar, then rtAuscar but now I'm just a Kiwi with a 1.
