landing at airfields
« on: June 06, 2004, 12:00:23 PM »
ok is  there  any chance  that   a  landing  at  a  airfield  other  then  on the  runway  could  be    called susceful.
Any one making  it  back  to there  field  after  combat  should  be  able to land  in  the  air field  aera  ok.
if its  about  bout  then  half  them  for not being on a runway  but  i think  ditched  is  a little extrem

Practice, practice, and more practice.

If it was easy, it wouldn't be fun.

Well, actually it is pretty easy, once you get the hang of it.

That is where the practice comes in.

I see his point though.. I 've come into a base dead stick with 4-5 kills and rolled to a sstop 25 feet from the runway and get a ditch.. Should be a range at the base to be able to land successfully.. like D500 or so..

Always felt that way myself.  The runway rule originated in AW...any runway even enemy.  Kinda liked it back when you could land on enemy runways here :) lol

Then why have runways at all?

Why not just a "safe circle". But when you 10ft from the "circle"  folks will say "man if I get close as I did it should be a successful landing".

Pretty soon the "circle" will be as wide as the arena.

Oh that whole bubble being as big as the arena is rediculous.

Although theres times where you can't control your descent and rudder control and you land a tad off the field, and it says you ditched.

I would favor towards something that is about D50-100 away from the strip itself, nothing else.

Or why not award 5 point landings? To encourage practice and if you miss the strip and land within that 50-100 you lose points.

After landing and missing the strip from a bounce and coming to a stop 101D away from the strip, the field ack automatically opens up on you for being a horrible pilot.

I agree Batz, at what point does it end?

Leave the succesfull landing area on the runway.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Anywhere on the field should be considered a successful landing.  I could see if you crash landed outside the airfield somewhere of in the distance.  But anywhere directly at the field should be successful.  They could even change it so landing successful would mean landing at the airfield and mission complete by landing on the strips themselves.

I think it should be 'successful' any where on the field. If you wanted to tack on a .5X extra on perks for landing on the runway that'd be fine too. Silly to say 'ditched' when your're sitting 50' from the tower.  <-- for nopoop

Actually You can land anywhere. but you must end your mission on the runway  or other hard area taxi way, Hangar, Rearm pad,on the feildfor it to be successful.
So. land then just taxi to one of the hard areas and end mission

I agree. Last week I landed on a carrier but missed the last arrester cord - I think the CV had started to turn or something. I slid along the deck and ended up as a mangled piece of scrap metal, but alive just. In response to .ef I got You have landed successfully. :p

You can land successfully at the VH area.  Doesn't matter if it's down or not.

i think any where within 75m of the RW shold be a sucsessfull landing but u only get half ur points iv had 7 kills b4 with a engine oil leak and my engine cut out on final i tryed to roll to the RW and rolled as far as i could witch was about an inch from my front wheels being on the RW and got a ditch now i say thats BS if not 75ms the atleast 20m cuz some squads like to park on the side of the RW like real planes did but cant cuz they'll get ditchs.

It's simple.  You want a successful landing, land on the runway.  If you can't manage that, then you deserve a ditch.
