Just curious, what does the "D" stand for?
Decision perhaps?

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

It stands for "Day" - count down was Day minus 3, Day minus 2, Day minus 1 then finally Day - being shorted to D gave us D-2, D-1 then D-Day.

Schad is correct.

Every major operation had a "D-Day" not just Overlord.
