Bits and Pieces
« on: January 06, 2000, 02:44:00 PM »
In the last two updates I have been subject to some "unusual" behaviour relating to A/C structure failures.
Several times in the F4U while in a shallow dive 300mph Indicated I have heard the crack and bang of a wing seperating (no creaking first)
And yesterday evening at 25k in a B-17 while in level flight (lvl otto) at 240mph indicated, my tail plane departed without a by your leave ;-)
Are Gremlins at work, wierd stick spikes or just work in progress?
I wouldnt even mention it but that buff run was the best I have had and was thumbing my noses at the Bish's behind me when i saw my tail go thataway. How embarasking

Noticed a couple of unexpected "bangs" in the F4U last night as well.  Didn't cause any damage though.

JimBear,

A squadmate of mine was flying a B-17 at a pretty good clip and accidentally hit Alt-X, causing the plane to suddenly pull up, ripping off his tail and shortening his flight quite a bit.  Could this have happened to you, too?

Another squadmate hit X to level out from a fast dive and had similar results.  Seems that there is some work yet to be done here.

Yes, someone else had this happen too!  If you look just above this topic you will see TT's post about cheating.
Last night I was flying a b17 over 2, I had just hit all acks, tower, etc, and was coming back around for fuel tanks.  I was in a pretty sharp turn to avoid TT in his "uberN1k"   , just as I was pulling up out of the turn, bang, both my elevators came off.
I didn't know what happened, because from my view TT was over 1.5k away and losing ground at the time.  I'm also on a 10baseT network, so I don't think lag should be a big problem here.
TT was upset because he didn't get a kill for me, but that was because my tail came off by itself.

Is this a bug, or are the b17 elevators really this weak?  I couldn't have been pulling more than 2 g's at the time.
Also, I heard none of the strain noises the game usually makes when you are about to lose a part.

I started a thread on the "killer-autopilot" in the bug section.  If you are at full speed and level with a light load (or empty) in a B-17, when you hit auto-climb your nose comes up so hard that something usually breaks (like wings )

The autoclimb just needs some kind of dampening.  I'm sure that the problem is slated for reworking with the flight model changes.
