Must be getting old but...
« on: June 08, 2004, 11:41:38 AM »
The new chrysler 300c appeals to me..

pretty much a mercedes 300 with a chrysler hemi in it.

I have been thinking for years that a merc with a big block in it would be a pretty neat car...  This thing  is pretty much what I woulda built and I don't think I could do it for as cheap.

Gonna be lots of cheap speed equipment for that hemi soon... they are gonna have a 4 wheel drive version...

Only bad thing is that there is no stick shift version but it is at least a 5 speed auto.

With gas at almost $2/gal here, I'm finding more interest in the hybrids.
Here we put salt on Margaritas, not sidewalks.

the 300 has a solenoid controlled valve mechanism that opens 8 valves to let the car run on 4 cyl.  when not needed.  It is supossed to tale like .4 milisec to switch and is torque demand controlled.   Can't tell by the sound or throttle feel supossedly...  thing gets 17 mpg city and 25 highway.

Honda is claiming 51mpg for their Civic Hybrid. Would be nice to save about $100/month. That's about 5 trips to the firing range.

I have my fuel for worlk supplied by the city and so I don't put 100 bucks a month into gas even at 10 mpg in my El Camino.

if I drive 10000 miles a year and get 25 mpg out of the 300c hemi and 51 out of the honda thingie... I would only save about 800 dollars a year.   you ain't gettin me to spend that much time in a honda for $800 a year.

Interesting. Here people pay 13 rubles for a litre, it will be over $1.5/gal, and you Americans can't afford "almost $2/gal"?! Average income is maybe 10 times smaller in Russia then in the US!

funked... they weren't aiming at your generation with it... to us old farts it brings back the old 300 series chryslers... It has oldie stuff like analog guages that look like SW ones and knobs for controls... leather.   chopped top and real friggin chrome door handles.   HEMI...  Sure... It don't look like some plastic mdel that got melted in the oven but us old guys are pretty conventional.

plus... I am being lectured about ugly by a.... subaru owner?

OoooooOOOOOOOOoooooooooooOooo ooooooooh! That's gotta sting!
