« on: June 11, 2004, 03:22:29 AM »
Anyone know where I can purchase the Windows 64 Bit Edition Operating System? Just got an AMD based system thats 64 bit, and I'd like to get the full capabilities out of it. Thanks in advance,

XTremeJ,

if you are looking for a trial version check here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/downloads/upgrade.asp

if you want a full version you will most likely need to have it ordered, check CompUsa or Best Buy  they may have the 64Bit versions in stock,

Keep in mind 2003 is the server side of the house which = $$$$

Cheers

Do you need 64-bit enabled applications to see any benefits from 64-bit hardware and OS?

I'd suggest downloading the free trial to try it out, then sticking with the normal 32 bit version for now.  There isn't enough software for the 64 bit XP yet to make it worth it.

Finally, the AMD 64 processor is no slouch running the normal version of XP.  It runs faster in 32 bit emulated mode then most processors.

XP 64 Bit edition isn't out yet. You can only test it with a free trial but that's it.

Microsoft will market it in october 2004.
