0.45 Climb test: 109, C.205, & Spitfire
« on: January 07, 2000, 05:08:00 PM »
These are rough tests so give them plus or minus 3 seconds.  Parameters are:
Climb speed: 150 mph
Fuel: 100% full
Test Ceiling: 20,000 feet

Climb was from the runway at sea level to 20k.  Times are:

Bf 109G-10: 6'10"
C.205: 6'15"
Spitfire IX: 6'16"

Remember, these are rough, but I think it may be an indication that 109 is still 1st in climb to 20k, and that C.205 is comparable to Spitfire in climb to 20k.

Quite marginal difference..
Anyway, doesn't sound like spitfries climb rate of Bf109s climb rate, should be more difference..

Spitfire IXe F should climb to 20k in 6 minutes 0 seconds as per WWII tests.

any 109 should climb to 20k in less time then F16C otherwise THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY HTC !!

>>Spitfire IXe F should climb to 20k in 6 minutes 0 seconds as per WWII tests.

really getting sick of these "Spitfire VBXXX should climb to 20k in 4 minutes 36.76 seconds with a pilot weight of 156.78 pounds assuming 754 rounds left in the guns per WWII test data found at the bottom of the ocean in a freighter sunken by a Uboat.  The Uboat was piloted by Hitler himself in a German conspiracy to destroy spitfire data so future flight sims could actually be play-balanced" type posts.

and of course those other great spit threads

"Poster A:  Spit climbs to X height in 7 minutes
Poster B:  Spit climbs to X height in 6:50
Poster C:  Spit climbs to X height in 6:40
Poster D(usually Hristo):  My 109 propeller makes my head get all dizzy.
Poster E:  According to captured data I read in a book someplace but dont remember where exactly, actual 109 propellers really did make the pilots dizzy and spits had clear propellers crafted out of high-quality lexan found in the mountains of southern Shrilonka thus giving them a HUGE advantage in combat.
PS:  All my family was in WW2.  My grandparents flew spits and 109's against each other.  They both bailed and were later married by a downed B17 tailgunner/minister and went to stockholm where they work in a garage that restores old spits.  They have one that is stock (although it has some funny looking lookin turbine inside) spitfire that can climb to 30k in 5 minutes."

oh, fd ski, You'll never stop won't You!
This is purely Spitfrie terrorism.
Just like ik defends 109, but there's this difference; ik's right ! LOL !

No harm, You're the only one to defend spit,
so Your existence is justified...

Wow CombatWombat, that sounds eerily like my family's background...except it was the ball gunner that performed the ceremonies.....,

and ofcourse they immigrated to Luxembourg after the war, where they restore old 109's and have dedicated their lives to the betterment of cheese....
