Alt-tabbing, or "windows" out key...
« on: June 15, 2004, 03:06:31 PM »
I just noticed this one within one of the last 2-3 patches.
When starting AH2, the screen initializes (white window) for 3-10 seconds before the AH2 intro screen comes up.

No problem, there, don't mind waiting if things are loading up.

But, if I hit the windows key and come back in - I get "Aceshigh.exe has encounterd a problem" message,
which locks up the pc, no mouse cursor, cntr-alt-delete won't work... only thing to do is manual reset.

Should I try to grab the debug info you guys?

Actually, I just noticed this....

I adjusted my settings 6x AA to 4X and my Anisotropic down to 8x from 16x. All setting remained at highest quality with vsync on.
This time when I went in the game, the Vid MEM said 118mb vid mem avail, 118mb used.

Before, when the settings we set to full, I had less memory used, more than 50% of the 118MB was free. But I couldn't exit out of the game with out a lock up.

I tried the windows key with the reduced settings and it worked fine.

I haven' tried the film viewer to see if this is what is causing the lock up when I try to view films.

Just checked back in with 8x AA and 16x anisotroic....53MB  used out of 118 available. Framerates are 20 fps higher in tower.

Now when I "window key" out and back in...I get 118 used out of 118 and my FR drops to 33 from 55-60 in tower

weird?

Hi!

My personal experience is that one should not alt-tab out of 3D game.

Many software mfgrs (i.e., UBIsoft with Ghost Recon) suggest not doing so.

Right now, I'm stuck at 60 for refresh rates - monitor rate at 1200x1600.

the new patch seems stable for me now.
FR in tower or ground sits around 40-47 on the ground, with a steady 59-60 in air in combat.

Wondering how we can juice our systems...lol

New moitor with at 80-100 hz refresh rate at 1200x1600...and a new ati xt800 platinum :)

Wonder how much that'll cost...lol
