Bomber Drones Again ...
« on: June 16, 2004, 08:13:19 AM »
Our squad took off with 5 lead B-17s and 10 drones last night.
  1.  Some drones exploded while still on the ground with engines
       shut off.
  2.  Other drones slipped into the ground after takeoff, sliding
into the trees and exploding even though the lead bomber
       was climbing normally.
  3.  There were no obstructions in the takeoff path.
  4.  A couple of drones simply disappeared for no apparent
       reason.
  5.  No excessive banking was involved, the climbout was
       straight ahead.

Basically, the drones are unreliable and unuseable the way they are performing at this time.

Drones that made it above 2000 ft. seemed to perform normally and finished the mission, but we lost over half our drones during takeoff and this was with highly experienced B-17 pilots who've flown AH for years.

Yup.  For some silly reason HiTech still has Rooks piloting the drones  :rofl

Keeping the drones in tow does seem overly difficult with anything over 25% fuel but it can be done for solo pilots willing to cut back on the throttle setting.

As Vega discusses above, IMO, takeoffs shouldn’t be generally so difficult as to discourage pilots from participating in cooperative bomber missions.
Easy in-game again.

I've had fairly good luck with drones in b43; haven't tried in 44 yet.

Bomber gunnery seems more entertaining.  It'd be nice to get AKCurly up and see how he does, considering what a bastage he is with bomber guns in AH1.  Be good to get his opinion.

The last thing you want to see on your tail is AKCurly. In this version of AH your guns are now set not to converge on your target if it is under 800. The drone guns just shoot left and right of the enemy. Only the main plane is hitting the enemy and that is not enough bullets to kill any fighter in AH
