wind noise bug
« on: June 16, 2004, 05:01:12 PM »
Verified by waffle...

Set the wind speed up high, and fly a plane directly into the wind and note how much wind noise.  In the test using 127 knot wind speed and a zeek, I noticed that even with 200+ airspeed while heading into the wind, there was pretty much no wind noise.  Then turn to head with the wind, and note the wind noise.  There will be a lot more wind noise even if the airspeed remains the same as it was when heading into the wind.

So wind noise is decreased when heading into the wind.  I only accidentally ran across this while testing something else, so I don't have test info using less extreme conditions.

I put this in a new thread because it was buried in a thread about a completely different subject and I thought maybe others that pay more attention to sounds than I do might verify it or see if it applies in other planes and other conditions.

edit:  Waffle says that the wind noise loop is not being played at all when heading into the wind in this test.
