Farewell Aces High I..!
« on: June 17, 2004, 02:24:51 AM »
Aces High I, was my first serious flight sim game.I started it out sometime at version 1.05.

Previously before that, I used to fly Fighter Ace 1.5,  FA2, and FA2.5... I used to think I was a real hot-shot pilot, and shooting down dorks in Spit14s with the Bf109F-4, with unlimited fuel and unlimited ammo, made me think that this "flight-sim" ain't so tough at all.

My very first contact with AH1 was with 1.04, a free 2-week trial. My first lift-off was with a Bf109F-4. I crashed into the tower. Everytime I upped I was whipped around and smacked so fast that I never knew what hit me. I was so frustrated and disgusted, I quit playing the 2-week trial only after 2-days, and went back to FA2.0.

Sometime later, I was determined to try AH1 for good, and quit paying for FA2.0 and started playing AH with a more humble attitude this time.

 I've been here ever since.

Farwell, AH1. Thx for the memories.

yes - thanks AH1

I too was a FA convert, trying AH1 when it was in beta and quickly running back to FA1 when I couldn't fly or hit the little bity icons in AH1 beta. Came back to AH (tour 3 I think) when FA went to 2.0 as I did not like the change.

Concerned that AH1 going to AH2 would ruin it as FA did, I am pleasantly surprised. Can't wait for the AH2 engine to make it into CT where the new & improved features will really shine

the HTC crew for a fantastic flight sim experience

I discovered AH just after version 1.03 came out. At a glance, I thought Warbirds 2.xx was still better. At that time, the 3d cockpits looked too squared off and cartoonish compared to the 2d cockpits of WB2. The terrain had its problems. Warbirds also had offline AI I could practice against. But the AH flight model, gunnery, tracers, and overall gameplay were fantastic!!!

Since 1.03, I have looked forward to every patch to see what new aircraft and improvements HTC would provide. Now that AH2 is finally here, I am looking forward to the continued growth of the planeset.

Ironically, now that Tour of Duty is going to become a reality, I got married and seldom have the time to do more than a sortie or two from a field being vulched.
