I've had a few auto-related close calls.
The worst one was when I hit a big-ass wall doing about 65-70ish in my old car. Tried to get on an exit to late, blew a tire and started spinning. Anyone who has ever driven in downtown DC (accident happened at the 295/395 split) knows it is chock full of big-ass concrete walls to run into. I ended up sideswiping a BMW (boy was he pissed) and spun around 3-4 and 1/4 times before hitting the face of the wall that came up to seperate the two ways you could go. I was headed right at it till I hit the little curby thing in front of it, that popped me up in the air and spun me around that final 1/4 turn so I hit the wall sideways. Knocked the rearview mirror off with my head, then starred the window on the backswing.
Had a nasty concussion and a bad case of whiplash (moving my head hurt like hell for like 2 weeks), but other than that I came out OK.
One other one was right after my best friend got his license, we decided to go to the Mall after school. So we are driving down this two lane road headed towards the highway. I see this house on the left with about a dozen sports cars parked in front. I go "Hey, look at that"... he does. We both look back at the road and yell "OH ****!" at the same time as we pass the house. The lady in front of us decided to turn right, and did the old "come to a complete stop in the middle of the road before making a right hand turn" thing... she almost got out of our way. We ended up clipping her left rear corner with the front right corner on his car, and then we kind of half-spun and skidded between two cars coming the other way. We ended up parked on the shoulder just about perfectly, facing the opposite way we had been going. I was like, man.. that was to close. Then I looked out the side window and there was a whoopee telephone pole about 2 feet away right beside me. I could have reached out and touched it. We decided not to go to the mall after all.
