Pyro...

How come when jumping to gun position in my 17,, it'll continue to autoclimb, or continue to fly level, but if I'm in auto-angle, it pulls up to level??????

Rips my wings off every damn time..

Please make it so's the damn plane continues auto whatever.......

Miffed that the 5 reds chasing me 1 of em got a free kill,, and me with no damage whatsoever, a successful drop, and 2 kills......

oh so I'm supposed to stay easy bait for multiple bad guys huh??
stay straight and level, or climbing,, but it's not ok to dive away and separate??? and still have some chance of survival??

if the damn auto pilot is set, it should stay where it's set.

I actually do understand the need for rudder input as I'm gunning, and I can deal with that.

unless of course you're advocationg that b17's can't defend themselves in a dive.

The speed command also works good for dives (if you set speed higher than level speed), and you don't have to worry about possible overspeed penalties.

Not having a prob doing the dive Az.

it's the auto-pullup to level as i jump to guns that rips the wings off...

I have had several experiences where I was on level a/p, and had been doing some gunnery work. When I went back into the pilots seat, the buff all of a sudden stuck it's nose into the clouds and headed for outer space. I immediatly check to see if the a/p is still on. I then tap the "X" key once or twice (if the a/p was on). This brings the nose back down to a more civil AoA. I have been fortunate so far. No wing damage.

GB when you set a dive check your speed, then set the .speed command to that speed and engage alt+x.  When I dive I'll set my speed in the 220-250 range and pull the throttle to idle and engage alt+x as my airspeed gets to the speed I set.  With the throttles at idle alt+x noses me 17 over to keep me speed up.  If I decide my rate of descent is to fast, I throttle up a little bit and level off a little while holding the same speed.  All while on me guns.  Applying full throttle can also bring you into a climb, depending on where you set your .speed.

What I'm trying to get at, is that the plane should NOT come back to autolevel, if auto anything is engaged, when you as pilot jumps to guns..........

Oh,, and Sled,, thats because you did NOT set auto-level, or autoclimb prior to going to guns or bombsight.

auuu contrare, GB. I always set (X or alt-x) before going into bombadier/gunner  position. Sometimes, when I come out of those positions the buff will learch skywards, sometimes it doesn't. What I was saying is that when this does occur, I immediatly switch off auto and reengage auto-level. This would pull the nose back down, reducing stress.
But here's a thought, seeing as this only happens sometimes to me. I am wondering if this pitch up has anything to do with rudder usage while in the bombadier/gunner position. Experiment with my thought GB, and see if the same thing happens to you.

Sled, I had the same problem, however I noticed that autolevel wasn't working all the time in fighters either.  I replaced the pots in my stick, no more problems, I dunno if this may be the answer, but in my case, it was.

B17 goes to automatically to OttoLevel anytime you jump to a gunner or the bombsight.

If it was in OttoSpeed (climbing) before going out of cockpit, as soon as you get back into cockpit OttoSpeed kicks back in.

If you had been out of cockpit awhile and you left your throttle at 100% your speed is now high.  OttoSpeed sees high speed, gives full up trim and G forces tear the wings from fuselage.

So before going out of cockpit, do one of two things.  Chop the throttle or engage OttoLevel.

BTW I believe a change is in the works for this.

Good Luck!

Correction: Otto-pilot(or from now on to be called "Quax" by me  ) only levels off when you go to the nose(f6), if you jump to guns while climbing on autospeed, he stays on autospeed.

I always go autolevel before bombing, and not once has Quax managed to rip the wings off, yet.
