The perfect bounce
« on: January 10, 2000, 12:04:00 AM »
Last night I was flying for Rooks [I know, I know] from F22 in a 109. I spotted an enemy aircraft near F8 and flew over to check it out. Saying I was a little hi would be a lie; the bogie was around 8k and I was closer to 15k above the clouds. I had made the mistake of turning icons off and had just glided down and right in behind Bash. When I hit alt-i I was stunned to find him at 355 yards and closing fast! So I lined up on him and fired 17 20mm shells and about 60 or 70 13mm shells. The effect was unreal; I watched pieces of his cowling fly off, bits of god-knows-what, and his right aileron. All of this followed by the black smoke of a dead engine and the white mist from his fuel tank. When I slid up next to him I noticed his engine was on fire!

Less than 15 seconds later he hit the dirt, and told me "Bash  : I never saw you delta6".
I simply told him that was the idea, but he responded with "Bash  : I don't have any idea  "

So all that reading about Erich Hartmann and "Paulie" Rossman IS paying off, how nice.

Bash, thanks for a short [but perfect] bounce oppertunity on your plane   Hopefully I won't have the dis-pleasure of having you pull one of me  !!

Was chasing a B-17 around at 33k over f2, when it became clear that he was heading home, so I let him go.  Saw some radar contacts near f6 so headed over that way.  Just as I spotted a low (to me) Spit and F4u, I ran out of fuel.  Let them go by, then rolled over and dove onthe trailing Hawg.  Glided down and came in fast on his low six.  Nice and quiet with no annoying engine noise.    Started shooting at about 400 yds, and kept the trigger down until I had to jink to avoid a collision.  He exploded as I went by.  Still had plenty of smash, so I lined up on the Spit, but he went evasive as I got close.  Made a couple of turns with him before I ran out of airspeed.

Turns out the F4u pilot was AFK.   Still, gotta love a glider kill.
