ok so there are 2 questions now

1. how do i check if my MB can suport DDR memmory?

2. how do i get a 400W power supply to the vid card?

after downloading the MB manual i came across this:

"supports up to 2GB 4 for single-sided or 2 double-sided DDR 200/266 MHz (with ECC) devices, running at 400/533mhz front side bus frequency.

guess that answer my question :)

#2 You buy a 400W Power Supply and it comes with a nifty set of "directions". Should'nt be to hard figure out from there. GL Bud ! damnit, reflex !

No, I have an excellent monitor, I just don't notice the huge difference. Perhaps I do have crappy eyesight. I just hate how you have to keep going into the settings and changing them for every game. When the games have their own AA/AF settings it will be easier.

I have a 128MB Radeon 9600XT and it is only fair for AH2, not spectacular.  Remember that the 9600XT is a "value" board and only has about half the guts of a 9800 (ie half the rendering pipelines).  At 1280x1024x32 with 4XFSAA and all AH2 sliders to the left I get unplayable frame rates (about 10 to 20 fps).  With the sliders about 30% from the left I get a more playable 30-50 fps.

One aspect I noticed in changing from an Nvidia card to an ATI card is the ATI card has problems with z-buffer: things that should be hidden behind forground objects often show through them.  This is especially annoying to GV drivers as you cannot tell if your shells are hitting long or short as a round that hit behind your target can show in front of it.  This showed up with AH1 and continues with AH2.  Perhaps I have something misconfigured, but everthing is stock (drivers, clock rates etc.)

Looking at the December benchmarking article  at tomshardware.com, the 9600 pro wins some comparisons, and the 9800se wins others.  You'd have to ask folks running these cards, who also have  systems similar to what you intend to run.

Of your remaining components the one component you MUST
upgrade is your RAM.  512mb minimum.

Until you upgrade cpu and ram, you won't see much if any performance increase out of an expensive card like the 9800Pro.  As for the 9800SE it is not quite as fast as the 9600XT or 5700U.  I used Tom's to score cards by comparing the frame rates in all 19 benchmarks to the frame rates of the 9800XT and expressing them as a percentage.  If you give the 9800XT a score of 100, the 9600XT scores 69.6, the 5700U 68.2 and the 9800SE 66.  These are so close, the games you play would be the deciding factor.  Based on anecdotal evidence (problems reported on the forum by ATI users) the 5700U would probably be the better choice in AH2.

hey yas, thanks for advice.

i'll go with an asus mb pc2700 want 3gig ddr- 400,333,266 fsb etc, with amd, and maxtor 120 gig 7200 rpm hd, 420 watt power supply with dual fans.

i was looking at asus site for water cooled but didnt see any, maybe i missed them.

anyone know of better or comparable MBs than ASUS?

Hi guys.
It seems unbelievable but my new ATI RADEON 9600 256Mb (all tweaks at half way) run worst or equal at my previous RADEON 7200 64Mb with all the tweaks at minimum that means 25 to 35 FPS when screen is crowded.

What kind of tweaks may I use I don't know.

I've used Catalyst 4.6 and Omega drivers but
probably I'll reinstall the Catalyst 4.3 instead of those.
I think the 4.3 are faster.

He can use profiles for each game, look into it. Don't tell the guy not to run the cards  AA and AF settings,  thats the best part of new vcards.

I don't know that any mobo manufacturer would offer watercooled options for their boards, they would leave it to the aftermarket people to supply these.  There are some big sites dedicated to overclocking and cooling, jsut type those words into the browser search bar to get more info than you could ever use.

3 gig of ram is overkill, at least for AH2.  There may be apps where that much could help, but none that I know of.
