Ack comparisons:WB vs AH
« on: January 11, 2000, 10:16:00 AM »
I have not noticed the field acks to be too much of a problem, as long as you juke around, nothing short of a couple of pings is all I've encountered.  I noted, however, if I were flying WB's, the mild jinxing I did in AH would have probably got me killed in WB's.  What is your opinions on the ACK in AH?  I feel its  just about right.

Yes, strafing ack in AH is a suicide mission.

No, I haven't tried any of the above, now I understand your problems, but here's a question, it seems obvious from this thread that maybe the ack become more accurate as you get closer to it, right?  Sounds historically accurate to me.

I think maybe the difference is that WB ack will "duck" if you shoot at it, where AH ack doesn't.  I've managed to kill a few AH acks with bombs, but strafing is suicide.

Yeah, but it doesnt get more accurate as you get closer, if you fly straight and level at 6k, you will be hit by the first round and the last.  It is just that as you get higher, when you jink the bullet is already on its way, when lower, almost no time to turn. Oh yeah, they fire in a laser beam pattern too.  Look at the jap kamikazes, look at what some of them flew through in rice paper kites, and that was a lot more than 3 guns!!

This is a recurrent thread, but the main points seem to be:

1. Instantaneous reaction time
2. Deadly accurate
3. Limitless supply of ammo
4. No reload time

It can be strafed, but be prepared to do it in several stages. You'll most likely never live long enough to get a bomb anywhere near the emplacement. Rockets don't appear to have any great effect (of course, I might just be terrible at it).

I have died every time I have gone for an ack, without exception.

Popeye,

Try flying a little lower.  I think ack shoots to 7k above base.

Buzz the field at 3k see what happens.  AH ack does not miss.

You can bomb ack from a heavy fighter, but it is a one way mission.

I have bombed succesfully 2 ack fields in AH.
Alot more often come out alive

Twice I've strafe the ack, once lived.
Needs to get VERY close to ack before fires.

Actually, as long as there's a medium-large deflection angle, the acks accuracy is lousy. But if you fly anything near an approaching course to one of them, they'll put the nails in your coffin.

The ack is a joke.  In his youth, my dad COed a platoon of APC's with radar-guided Vulcans.  He laughed when he saw how good the AH acks were.

That said, HTC has stated that the ack is very much BETA and will be fixed.

The secret to not getting vulched is....take off from a field that is NOT under attack.

Taking off from a field with enemy fighters over head is just as much sucide in AH as it seems it was in the war we are trying to simulate.

That said, I don't really have an opinion on the acks as aaa effectivness is always going to be a subjective thing.

It seems that people tend to get too hung up in "we need this", and "we need that" about AH.  I totally agree that the ack is not realistic at all, BUT.... I also realize that this is probably much lower on the priority list of improvements to the beta than all the other things people complain about, such as wanting more accurate flight modeling, damage modeling, smoke effects, ammo effectiveness modeling, etc., etc., which in my very freely shared opinion HTC has addressed wonderfully.   This is not to mention the constant badgering for the new "P- this" or "ME-that" or "B-whatever".  I am very impressed with the rate at which improvements have been made, and continue to be made.  The ack issue has been addressed elsewhere on the board, and HT pretty much stated it as I have.. "it will come."  Other than the original "Red Baron", this is the first flight sim I have had any interest in, and that interest has very quickly become addiction.  I think outstanding things have been accomplished and I eagerly await each new version. Keep up the great work HTC, and please people, be reasonable and patient.
