Channel 200 is only different than channel 1 in one manner. You must choose to join it, wrather than choose to not join it. And it seems to me the people complaining about it, are realy complaining that most people do not join it.

Well guess what, that was the entire point of disabling channel 1.
So that the people who abuse the channel , did not have a captive audience that didn't want to listen. Why should the burden of choosing to  listen be on them, VS the burden be on the people who did wish to listen.

SO the people who clog Ch1 with IMMATURITY, toped with self gratifying stupidity, are whinning because we don't HAVE to listen to their meaningless half-baked nonsense. Paying players are not forced to listen to a 12 yr old mentailty from people over 20.

I think the only people who are NOT going to get what HT posted are the ones who just lost their audience. The rest of us will be shaking Dale's hand at AH con.

Next we'll see post about how hard it is to change to ch 200, or physically have to type a code to listen to nonsense. "...that's so inconvienent...rant rant rant, blah blah blah ...."

Its like football. The smack talking over the line of scrimage, or in the locker rooms before or after the game, doesn't make the game. BUT IT CERTAINLY HELPS THE GAME. Otherwise, why would so many sport shows cover and relish the smack talk? But I too can adapt. I wonder, however, if those so burdened with what other people are saying, can. I guess every society (even virtual societies) has its book burners. Theirs is a dubious cause. For every window closed, two more open.

You cannot build a community through chnl 1 once the population pushes past 500 players.

Hate is situational and arises from well designed gameplay. What passes for trash talk in this era is just misdirected whining.  Better to shut it off and focus on real community building.

Yea he may have had some dumb posts but the same can be said for most of the "adults" from time to time.
 And this was a KID we are talking about.
yea his posts were sometimes childlike but this IS after all a child.
It is a real shame cause though it all you could tell the kid was just bubbling with self pride that he was working for something for himself and not just having it handed to him like most kids do nowdays

Now I dont know all the wherealls of it all who said what,or how it came to that .but I do know he was the one that was attacked first.
I stopped reading the posts after the first couple insults were hurled out of disgust.
After all you can see who started a thread. If that person is known to have dumb or boring posts why bother even reading that thread let alone respond to it?

I would have turned it off a long time ago, but I am sure they (HTC) were looking at some considerations I am/was not. Nevertheless…

I don't miss it a bit.  Though at times I wish I could say something other than to who shot me down. Though if it is that important I just tune em private. Not a big deal, but with it off they will not lose any more customers who are insulted and slammed by the regulars. Not so much the old timers who cut it up, but from those that really don’t care and want to insult. It takes away their ability to do that. If they want to tune 200 it is their choice. They are not inundated with C1 the first time they fly.

And of course this puts moderators out of a job. One less thing for people to whine about. Win win all the way around. Turn it off and keep it off.

As for you Snaperhead, I hope your gone permanently. I would have not even warned you.

I agree that *some* player of AH seem to feel that they are in the 'untouchables' section and can do what they please, hurling indsults and judgements without any substance or regard for others feelings.
JetB and Jay were two kids playing a game populated by adults. they were treated with no respect by some of these so-called 'adults', and they still played and soldiered on through the 'uber-geek' insults and putdowns. they didnt back away from confrontation on this BB even when the so called 'gods' of AH were against them, and to take the piss, they got banned in the end not the 'gods'

snapperhead may have been a little over the top but i see his point! (LMAO at the 'i made a map too' bit. even if this makes me immature.)

i would be happy to pay their 2nd month after Drediock if HT were to let them back.

i would also be happy to pay  double next month if HTC would come down hard apon those who played their sick games with the two kids - they know who they are, may they forever live in shame from their actions.

first off: snapperhead jet and jay did not get banned. Where do you get your info? From a secret decoder ring out of a crackerjack box? Neither is banned from the BBS either. They just have to work to earn the money to get newer computers to play.

Secondly: I hate to go against the grain here but I find it rather ironic that on the day HT disabled CH1 one of the main antagonists that was smacktalking and tipped the scales so to speak was the one who started this thread!

I have to agree with both Culero here, the other being myself

BUT, if the text is so numerous, and everyone is talking at once, it goes by so fast you don't have time to absorb it, and probably miss 60% of anything of importance to yourself. The text overload is usually due to smack talkers from all countries, blasting into a bottle neck, IMO.

HT didn't actually *remove* anything, only made it a manual option. And instead of looking like > Ch.1 <, it looks like > Ch.200 < .

For the majority of the players, who probably don’t care for some of the Ch.1 antics, it’s probably best that you have to tune into it, then to get a buzz kill from it and have to tune out of it. If it auto opens to Ch1 then you are kind of insulting those/most who don’t care for it, by shoving it down there throat right off the bat. By making it manual the players who don’t like it may not even realize it exist. Could be a big turn-off to new players.

The only reason Ch 1 is even talked about as like a plague is because it was totally abused by few, and annoying to many. Almost like porn pop-ups, it became more annoying then useful.

OTOH, I can’t believe I involved myself in this conversation. Because, I don’t seem to understand what is so terribly hard to type 200. ;-P

 I think HTC’s reasoning makes enough sense that it doesn’t need to be analyzed.
And here I am writing a wall of text about it…

If you have new company over for dinner, do you want them to see your house a mess as soon as they walk in, or do you want to keep it behind closed doors so that maybe they won’t see it at all? It could be a bad first impression.

If it hadn’t been abused/abusive, it would not have changed . But IMO taunting must exist somehow, to some degree. Like Culero said, it makes you love to hate the enemy.
