Nightmare Recruiting Drive
« on: June 21, 2004, 09:59:03 AM »
The Nightmares have hovered around 45 members for the past couple of years.  We haven't actively recruited because of some of the logistical issues of a second wing, primarily the Squad Highlight feature that allows you to readily identify the Squad area of operations, and pick up your Squaddies easily in a dogfight.

With the advent of AH2, and the new "Voice Channel" highlight feature, that issue goes away, and we have decided to start recruiting again.  Our goal is to add 16 new members, building up to two full wings (60 members) over the next several months.  We will take it slow and only add a couple a month so we can spend the individual time needed to get the new members fully integrated.

Let me give any interested pilots a brief rundown of the Nightmares:

The squad is made up of individuals with many diverse backgrounds and interests, and we think you would find them all fun to fly with.  We have people from many nationalities, professions and walks of life.  What we all have in common is a keen interest in Military Aviation in general and Aces High specifically.

The squad has a bit of a Maverick reputation, we liken it to a group of rugged individualist, as each member has their own unique philosophy and approach to the game.  But, when needed, we organize ourselves and our fellow Rooks to accomplish whatever is needed in the Arena.  We all try to be professional and courteous in our demeanor while online, and the squad’s goal is to maintain a ‘positive presence’ in the arena.  We rarely trash talk others and try to help out fellow countrymen in trouble and show respect for the enemy.

Our Squad heritage goes back to 1996 in the Relaxed Realism Arenas of Air Warrior, where we flew for B-land.  We evolved to Full Realism, and maintained a strong presence in Air Warrior until that Flight Simulation was discontinued at the end of 2001.  We have had a robust history of developing Joint Operations for our Country, with the goal of increasing the overall enjoyment factor for everyone in the game

Organized Activities

Sundays - our traditional squad night, which starts at 9:00 p.m. EST.  We like to fly Joint Ops, and do fly as a ‘Sister’ Squad with the NightHawks, who we work together with for operations in the Main Arena as well as the Friday Squad Operations.

Fridays - Friday Squad Operations (FSOs), Squad-based, three frame mini-scenarios that occur on Friday nights beginning at 11:00 p.m. EST.  These are very fun, intense one-life events held in the Special Events Arena.  We are one of the larger participating Squads, and have been flying them since inception.  Link - http://events.hitechcreations.com/squadops/index.php

Thursdays - Training night, starting at 9:00 p.m. EST.  Cage and MGD lead our training efforts, which include these weekly group sessions, as well as any customized individual training our members desire.

We are also one of the founding members of the RJO.  RJOs are Rookland Joint Operations, where about 25 Rookland Squads get together to coordinate an assault on Knit or Bishland.  These activities are about the best organized fun you can have in the Main Arena.  Link - http://dgideon.org/rjo/.

None of these activities require mandatory attendance, but are certainly a fun thing in which to participate.  We realize with different time zones and work schedules, not all our squad can attend these functions.  Our goal is to provide a structure for the different types of activities our members are interested in, so they can participate if they find it appealing.

Training

Our squad has members at all different levels of skill with this game, and we are all still learning.  If a member, or others who ask for assistance have a desire to increase their knowledge of ACM, we have a number of alternatives available.  We hold Nightmares Training primarily on Thursdays as needed in the Dueling Arena.  We can also set up any individual training desired.

A number of our members are ex-AWTC trainers, and are always glad to help in any way.  Any of us are more than happy to hop over to the training area to do some one-on-one training.  Lastly, if there is any particular plane you want to learn more about, we can hook you up with the squad ‘expert’ in that plane.

Community Involvement

We have a lot of fun with this game, and think it is important to give back to the community that provides so much entertainment for our Squad.  This heritage started back in Air Warrior, where Flying Dutchman lead the Saturday morning training classes, and BFD was both an AWTC Trainer and an Arena Officer.  This has continued in AH, where Ghost Dancer is XO of the Events Team, and Squirrel continues his AW tradition of developing great terrains for the community.

Well, that gives you a brief overview of the Nightmares.  Anyone is welcome to fly with us whenever they please.  Just tune 165 voice and text, and give us a hail to see where we are flying.  If your interested in joining the Nightmares, just let GhstDncr, Plink, MGD, Woz30Bat, Cage or myself know and we can take it from there :).  My e-mail is dawg898@fuse.net.  You may also visit our website for additional information (http://www.nightmares.org).  Please drop in the forum and say Hi!

Cya Up!
