Skuzzy or Bloom, Hyperthreading and cpu %

On our old machines we knew we were running a clean machine when the Task Manager showed Aces High (1) was using 98% of the cpu cycles.

Now, with these newer machines running Hyperthreading, the Device Manager shows two identical cpu and the Task Manager shows Aces High (1) with 50% of the cycles and system with 50%.  When I turn Hyperthreading off I show Aces High (1) with 99% of the cpu cycles.

I’m wondering how to judge whether I have a clean machine without turning off Hyperthreading or if I’m loosing cpu cycles by leaving it turned on to begin with.

(It took me weeks to figure out why I wasn’t reaching 98% on my new machine.)

Yep, like I said, I figured that out.

The question is do we want to turn it off for Aces High

and

is there another good test to judge when your machine is running clean?

Another question, if you know, can the user change the amount of processor time allocated to each process?  I might want to reduce the amount devoted to the system unless the output from the Task Manager is completly false and worthless.

As you can tell, I'm not a computer professional.  I'm just some one with some questions about how to achieve the most out of my machine when it comes to playing Aces High.

DirectX, or any 3D graphics program for that matter, cannot take advantage of HT technology.  Typically you will find that 3D games run a bit better with it disabled.

The task manager CPU usage is a bit bogus when using HT, as Microsoft has a very simple 'divide by 2' implementation to show CPU usage.  It really does not reflect the actual CPU usage.
