Wow, nobody gets to be a little general without seeming LIKE A COMPLETE ARSE in AH.  That includes wotans last post.  Sure it sucks when you dont get the check six cause somebody is chatting with the guy next to you, but hell, I bet good money wotan has a cell phone.

You shoulda started taking about the weather.  Anybody that would ***** about something they have no possible control over needs to get the weather told to them.

My reply is, "Yes you were wrong".

Beyond that I don’t care much about what you were talking about. My point in general is that range channel chatter (of which your 30 sec or whatever contributes) is out of hand.

That guy is probably frustrated by the constant hen clucking that goes on. It does affect folks who are trying to communicate with their friends and squad mates and who care nothing about whatever it is you were going on about.

You can be upset all you want but I would have asked you to shut up as well.

But you go girl...

There, you feel better?

Patronize you? You ran to the bbs "mommy" for validation. You get whats called for...

actually. I think a "can you guys take to private please?' would have work also;)

We must get rid of range channel ASAP. I say we replace it with something like Ch245 or maybe like Ch246?

hehehe.

245.   how bout channel 564?

Problem is you want joe newbie to be on range as soon as he gets into the game.  Just a vox mute would be fine.

I know I'm vastly outnumbered here but I say kill "VOX" all the way and let us run some outside "communication" software like the bad old days. Things like BattleCom, Team Sound/Speak/whatever, Roger Blowco/Gator. At any rate then we all had control over what was said over the channels and we could invite whomever we wanted to our private conversations.

OR since that isn't likely to happen I go with Wotan on the bandwagon of having Squadron channels override Range and any other predetermined in game channel. To me it just makes more sense when 90%+ of your ingame chatter is between squad mates and is more than likely only relevant to them in their missions and flights. That way I don't have to listen to the big fish story being told over range channel along with the broken story of how some high school kid kissed this girl and played with her boob.

SO here goes the campaign now...
Permanent Squelch List and Squadron "radio" channel priorities in 2004! OK so we need to shorten it a bit any ideas.

Well, no one "owns" range channel. Last I heard, it was there so everyone in range could communicate. Further, 5 short messages isn't really enough to warrant a complaint. Especially if those messages help a friendly survive or get a kill. That is after all, the object of the exercise. Funny how some people feel they are so important that range channel should be used as it suits them, regardless of anyone else. Sort of tells you what kind of person they are.

Well... I was there when this happened KJ714, and I can understand the frustration with the chatting... though I didn't say anything. Yep, he could have squelched, end of story, and if you were not there... it would sound like whomever asked that was out of line, but in my opinion, there was certainly an understandable reason why this request was made. The 'I can't hear my squad channel' might have been a nicer way to express what was really annoying him. It certainly is nicer than what I was thinking.

What is range channel good for if not talking about NASCAR, guns, and the jug of moonshine that Billy Ray made this week?

I want to know these things!

And damn each and every one of you who steps on dear old Billy Ray's toes for it.

Well, after reading all that was posted, and not knowing the entire store, I would say you were both wrong.

First off, Range Channel IMO is for communicating game related information with other players, players that are not on your squad.  Which by the way, you stated it was.  The other person might have been correct in asking you to move to another channel, however it sounds like his diplomacy was lacking in more than one respect.  This is all the more reason to politely tell them that the exchange was finished and thank them for stepping forward to help this person himself.

So, for you:
This is a game.  There is no reason to be rude.

For them:
This is a game.  There is no reason to be rude.

Yes, it is irritating at times, but if it starts to bother you, just ask the offending party to take it to a private channel.  Period.  If it is possible to change to another channel, do it in courtesy to your fellow players.

My 2 cents.

Squad's sometimes have muti-faceted misssion's going on and range channel is needed in addition to squad. Nothing worse than two squaddies screaming check 6 over squad channel when I'm climbing my bomber's out and getting a jack and coke. Range channel fine for talk if no threats are around but please STFU when guys are coordinating wingman manuevers and tryin to tell ya bout the goon 2k beneath your plane while your talking about your pathetic weekend.

Jaxxo you can set a tuned for joint squad opps, folks can set a channel for defending a base etc... Or set a channel just to chat.

Mission have a "mission channel"

You dont have to use range. The problem is range is used for everything from a meet and great channel to a "home improvement" channel.

Communication between squads can be on a tuned channel etc.
