My daughters 750 Duron with G2 MX 400 & 128M ram running XP gets 20 to 30 fps.

Im thinking of buying a RADEON 9200 128MB vid card but heard its not too good

will 128mb of RAM be fine if I get a good video card?(20-30fps is fine with me)

If you end up buying a vid card make sure you buy an AGP. Only problem is you might not have an AGP slot. So you are going to need to buy a MB with an AGP slot if you do this. It is HIGHLY recommended that you play AH with an AGP based card as opposed to a "PCI" which is most likely what you are using now. For your vid card, you can buy a 9800 Pro for 95 dollars. Also 512 MB and higher is best for AH2. If you end up being able to run AH2 with that, your frame rates will probably be horrible, and in furball situations (20+ guys in the same area) you are going to expirience very bad lag an d such. I'd highly recommend upgrading, sorry to break the news:(

Windows XP is using almost all 128 MBs of your RAM just to run the OS.

You need a minimum of 256 more, preferrably 512 more. Your Dimension 4550 only has two memory slots, and can use a total of 1024 MBs RAM. One stick of 512 from Crucial is about $95. A stick of 256 is about $55. www.crucial.com

Your system will be much happier with additional RAM, all your applications will run much better.

I would get the one 512, which will give you a total of 640 MBs.

Your system does have an AGP slot, so no problem there.

I think XtremeJ meant a 9600 Pro, not 9800 Pro. If you can find a 9800 Pro for $95 US, tell me where and I'll buy a dozen!

Your rig with 512 RAM and 9600 Pro or 9600 XT will run AHII fine.
Total upgrade, < $200. A 9800 Pro would be a waste with your CPU and would tax the Dell power supply, a 250 watt unit.

9600se's are slower than 9600 or 9600pros

9600pro is the fastest of the 9600s

Forget the 9600 Se, it's junk.

Plain 9600 is Ok

9600 Pro is better

9600 XT is best.

But you REALLY need RAM for your mobo.

A 9600 Pro would work fine. A  plain 9600 is ok to if you  need to save $. Also look at Nvidia 5700 LE. It's a de-clocked 5700, but you can overclock it to 5700 Ultra speeds pretty easily.

I went to http://www.crucial.com and found what will work on my computer, and plan on ordering a 256mb

for a video card I went to http://www.pricewatch.com/menus/m37.htm and clicked 9600 128mb pro and then it gave me a new list  http://www.pricewatch.com/1/37/5162-1.htm and I do not know the difference in these. I see in the description where it says SE beside it now, pro, etc.

The further down the list I go the higher the prices go... which means I gotta earn more money and more work:p bleck its summer

I'm a little leery of the sellers listed at Pricewatch.

Personally, I like www.newegg.com for online computer hardware purchases. They have an outstanding reputation for customer service. Click on shop by category> then Video cards. On the left use the drop down search menus and pick whatever chip set you are interested in, in your case the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. The price may not be as low as some pricewatch sites, but it's worth the extra $10 or $20 for the customer service if anything goes wrong.

If you live in the west, Fry's is good for in person. If you don't like what you bought you can take it back easily.

8X 128MB from http://www.newegg.com for $71.50, I rec'd it today, in-
stalled it & was playing AH2     Btw here are my computer specs:

Dell Dimension 4300
Windows XP Home Edition
Video: 16MB ATI RAGE 128 Ultra
DirectX 9.0b

Was planning to purchase the ATI 9600 128 or 256, but was
cost conscious & purchasd the VGA PROLINK GF FX5200 8X 128MB

It did everything that I wanted ...beautiful colors ...frame rates
from 47-61, mostly betwix 57-60.  Am I happy?  Yes indeed I am!!
