Gunnery Question
« on: October 14, 1999, 08:48:00 AM »
I'm seeing a few weird things lately that I'm trying to get a handle on.  I'm having a hard time getting kills all of a sudden, even though I've been pinging the living crap outta the enemy.  I switched to the P-51 from the Spit, and at first I was doing pretty well.  Lately though I can put up to 15 hits (flashes) on a bogey and he just continues going as if nothing happened.  These hits are usually anywhere from d 200 to d 400, and my convergence is set from d 250 to d 300.  HT said that hits are determined by the client and are real hits that are sent to the server (as opposed to candidate hits that the server  either accepts or rejects).  A couple of squadmates of mine are having the exact same problem, and they're both experienced simmers.  More often than not when someone pings me more than 3 or 4 times I'm going down, even if I'm battling a P-51 (Mg only).  I see the regulars continuing to rack up quick kills.  My gunnery ain't great, but it ain't real bad either.  I'm wondering what the discrepency is.  Anyone else seeing the same thing, or is there some location-specific damage I need to practice on?

I've also noticed that it seems harder to hit a plane.  I've been on the defensive and have been amazed that I wasn't getting hit.  I had tracers flying by on both sides of my plane but I wasn't getting hit.  It seemed kind of strange but I wasn't complaining at the time.

You guys have enough time to count hits?

Actually, the few planes I've brought down in AH were with snapshots.  I only recall seeing a few strikes (La-5 cannons) and then they go down.  I'll have to pay more attention to that if I can tonight.
