... is another "not so well thought out" part of AH gameplay. Taking out the radar coverage of an entire "country" is detrimental to gameplay. No player should be able to disadvantage so many other players so easily, and it is usually the country being ganged that also get their HQ bombed. When Dar is gone, many players log off. Having a single HQ that controls all radars is also highly unrealistic.

idea:

bombed HQ = local tower dar only.

no dar in planes/vehicles etc.

you only c the dar within the range of the tower you are in.

may be a coding nightmare but seems like a good compromise to me.

Just thinking about the importance of sector airfields in the Battle of Britain, perhaps putting say, 5k of eggs on the dar or tower of the zone base should take out dar on all country fields within that zone, or, all such fields except the one you are currently at [simulating the knocking out of the coordinating function of a zone/sector airfield].

OTOH, knocking out hq means that you can't see what shows on dar in other sectors, but still can see dar returns from your own sector [assuming zone dar for that sector is still up].

Heck, if they made sector counters undestroyable I wouldn't even complain about NIGHT & DAWN/DUSK.

One gameplay impediment....I can live with. Two just ruins things.

I think sector counters should alway be available.

Local radar should affect local DOT-DAR...destroying it should take out local dot dar for both friendly AND enemy. I mean....what's the point of taking away only enemy dot dar? You see a dot, look at the map, and if it doesn't have a corresponding green dot then it's an enemy....so there is still the IFF effect. When you destroy local radar they should both go.

Sector counters shouldn't even be considered "radar". It isn't. It's a basic tool to aide gameplay in the MA not unlike auto-pilot or zoom view.

Plus, removal of the ability to destroy Sector Counters would also allow for the permanent removal of the silly ME-163 unit from the MA which makes high altitude bombing pointless.

I think Raskers idea is perfect.
Divide the map into zones, each zone has zone (sector) dar. If this is killed you lose dar for that zone. The HQ still affects all zones but if the sector dar is still up you still get dar for the sector you are in, all others will appear blank until you enter them (assuming that that zone dar is up of course).
This may lead to a mission where jabos have to go in and clear a path (kill local sector dar) to allow buffs a better chance on reaching their targets.

how about having it so ever Zone has a HQ so if that Zones HQ is hit then that Zones Dar is gone without having the hole country being without it

but of course this does not work on small maps:(

Seems to me that if dar is tower based then killing the HQ should only effect the mission editor............ and maybe channel 2.

Lets think:

HQ is target that placed deep in evemy theritory that requires high amout of bombs to destroy............

In order to get it you need to bring couple of B-17/Lanc formations to HQ and not be destroyed by Me-163 that will scramble to intersept you (very deady thing).

So in order to sucess you must organize huge mission of 12-15 players of bomber pilots and fighters that will cover them......

It is not so easy and thus the result is valuable........

I think it is really great thing and probably only one real strategic planning option in at MA in AH

last night a sortie of 20 corsairs completely destroyed bish radar. Thankfully, it was up and running at 100% effeciency in less than 5 minutes .

It would be far more interesting to model factories and have limited ability to produce aircraft depending on damage to said facilities.

System: Spitfire Factory 1 has been destroyed
System: P51 Factory 1 has been destroyed

Of course, having a larger map to place these factories out of range would have to be generated as well...
