I don't mind the HQ bombing.

But I think the whole thing's kinda opposite of what it should be.

Damaged HQ should be resupped and repaired, and totally destroyed HQ should be unable to be repaired.

Sounds like Air Warrior. They had aircraft factories that 'produced' the planes that were widely used at the time (spits and ponies usually). If that factory was razed, along with an airfield's hangars, those planes could not be upped.

Still a good idea, methinks. Just set it up so the 'top 4' from the last map are produced at that factory. When that factory is flattened, no more top-4 from any field. Maybe make a bomber factory as well that does the same for the popular bombers.

But when HQ is hit and radar is down, it only takes a few folks flying re-supply missions to HQ to bring everyting back up - so why would people log when it is so easy to restore DAR? In fact, why would anyone undergo the arduous, dangerous, and lengthy task of bombing HQ in the 1st place, since it is so easy to restore?

Now if someone bombed all the radar factories for a country, and THEN bombed HQ, would it be less easy to re-supply and get DAR back so quickly?

If so, then we'd be looking at actual strategic bombing campaigns being necessary for the big payoff - now would that be so bad?

You cannot resupply a partially down HQ, but can resupply a fully down HQ.
I suppose it is the wrong way round, but consider this -
How harder is it to take it down just 75%, than totally destroy it. IMO it is harder to put just the right amount on it, than to totally carpet bomb it to death. Perhaps that is why the resupply model is as it is. How many HQ raids have meant to take it down 75% and ended up killing it totally?

Funnily enough was expecting a new post (not this original) and a Rook whine on this after Monday.
By killing their strats (city, ammo, training) then taking their dar down 75%, they had no dar for something like 4 hours. Of course killing the t+s and ord on the field kept them bottled up. It wasn't until we stopped that they got back off their main island.

Bish are used to flying without dar, we usually have it so little, if you can't get on local channel or squad and ask whats going on then I don't know what to suggest.

Asking what's going on is easy, getting an intelligible reply is not. I was on rooks during that 4 hr drop, and I spent a huge amount of time looking for bad guys -- pretty boring. Calls on country channel were on the level of "17s HQ raider". I'd call for more info, and get nothing useful. I'd up to chase the flashing bases and get nothing.

But seriously, Dar isnt realistic, its gameplay -- and an important part of it. If everybody in MA thought like CT players, modifications would be reasonable -- but as it is, I say leave it alone.

Dar setup here is pretty lame to be honest.
My feeling is it should be set up something like this

Feild Dar= provides Dar within feild range(local dar)

Radar stations(Factories)= Provides Zone dar. Tieing the dar from X amount of feilds together within a certain zone should also increase range dar significantly for bases within its zone, Say, by 1/3

HQ= The Dar that ties all the other dars together for that country.
also shoul increase range dar for undamaged Zones

Kill feild dar and dar around that feild is disabled(range dar

Kill Dar stations(Radar Factories)   kills all but local range dar which would now be reduced to standard (current) ranges

Killl HQ= only zone and local dar available if not damaged.

HQ should also effect country moral and how fast things are repaired. this would Make HQ still a very important target while not letting one person kill dar for an entire country

Fuel and ammo setups should be done in a similar manner.
But thats for another thread

Setups something like this for everything Dar, ammo, Fuel, Base rebuilding  would do wonders for creating legitimate strat play and make things more interesting as to wipe out dar in an area would require
co ordinated attacks on specific targets to have a real effect on an area

Strategic Bombing
« Reply #21 on: July 14, 2004, 08:48:27 AM »
The way strategic bombing should work is, you attempt to destroy the enemy radar. The enemy should attempt to prevent this, and then rebuild it if it goes down. I'd say, leave it alone the way it is. It is difficult enough to get bombers in there to do the job, and it is fair since all three countries are susceptible to losing their dar. The obvious solution is, watch your dar when you have it up, and if you see and end run around the map towards your headquarters, go up and defend it. If anything is to be changed, give us B2 bombers that are invisible to dar. Thank you.
