Stutters and VOX
« on: June 24, 2004, 06:34:36 PM »
Getting pretty severe screen stutters and massive FR drops when ever Range VOX is in use.

I have my sound card acceleration backed off to 3/4's and no change.

Is this a known bug (or a problem on my end)?

cheers,
RTR

Havn't had any other reports of it.

What sound card are you using?

since the patch that was put on today i have had screen stutters and vox stutters making this game unplayable
i can fly along for a bit but as soon as i get into a fight the
stutters start increasing and the frame rate drops to like 3-4 or even 1
i did not have this problem at all!! earlier today
my average fps was 30 and even in the heat of battle dropped to
only 15
im at the end of my teather with this game
i have spent so much money making the transition from ah1:(

Hitech, DXDiag shows my sound as

Realtek AC97 Audio.

Not sure whats causing this, and think more and more that it is on my end somehow, and not a bug issue.

Should I email in my DXDiag report  and get you guys to have a look?  (would be much appreciated).

Thanks for the reply.

My System:

Intel celeron 2.6 GHz
256 MB
Geforce FX 5200 video card (PCI version)

Cheers,

I to have noticed a FR drop with lot's of vox talking going on.  Just tonight I have backed off sound accel. to 3/4 and I will see how it goes.  SB PCI128 latest drivers.

FYI;

I've been asking people who have VOX issues that are intermittent, or otherwise defy explaination, such as:

*5x5 in tower, unintelligeble in air
*loss of FR in crowded areas
*"Surging" or 'Flange' effect during transmission
*5x5 trans. that degrades drastically after only a few minutes. (sometimes fixed on re-log)
*VOX 'Crapshoot'.  (Might work today, Might not)

From what I've gathered, the common ground these problems share are:

*Win XP or 2K
*On board audio chips
*SB PCI-128 cards - (only a few of these, but every one is problematic)

** Another problem (easier to fix), is to turn OFF any and all AUDIO APPS like 'Real Audio', 'WinAmp', 'CD/MP3' players etc.
But not just turn 'em off. REMOVE THEM from the system tray/task bar when running AH. **

All of the on board audio systems are less than 6 mo's old as well, and part of systems w/ fast cpu's and lots of RAM.

I had similar issues back in AH1, which went away when I disabled AC97, On bd audio, and added a SB Live! X-Gamer, (Which I still run on a win98 SE system. [see below])

SUMMARY:
*On board audio blows chunks
*Running RA, WinAmp etc. while in AH and using AH Voice, is
INSANE.

Hope this helps
S!

I have always had a lond delay with vox, but only the first time I try to transmit.   After the first transmission I am normal vox from then on out.  Odd sure, but I assumed everyone was getting it and didn't say anything.

I am weak on system RAM, only have 128 megs of DDR, sort of suspected that.  Soundcard is a SB Live which has served me well for some years.

1.4 ghz Athlon
sb live
128 meg DDR
FX 5200 128 meg

VOX induced freeze

It's worse on range, but I get micro warps (mini freezes) when I key either mic (range or squad).

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)
