Question re: Texture Size & Patch 3
« on: June 25, 2004, 05:00:33 AM »
Since the new patch has addressed the vid memory issue, what are the benefits/minuses to increasing the texture setting?  I had cut it back as the short term fix for the vid mem issue.  Thx.

Just give it a try and see how it effects your performance.  There are many factors involved.

I sort of figured that would be the answer.  :D   But thanks for the response!  As with most new software, there is a lot of tweaking to be done for those of us with older systems.  But kudos to all the AH staff for putting a ton of tweaking capability in!!!

Generally speaking, the parameters are how much system resources you have.  If you have more than 256MB of system ram (and a high percentage of that is free), then using the larger texture format may not be an issue.
But, if your video card only has 64MB of ram, then the larger texture format could be an issue.
If you have 256MB of system ram and 128MB of video ram, it will depend on the amount of available free system memory.

The mixes and matching to give an accurate answer are rather staggering.
