And I would recommend getting a PDA phone.  That way you get wireless internet just about anywhere and you can dial from your address book or from a phone number you get from a web search or an email, and it reduces the number of items you have to carry around.  My buddy's Treo is incredible and I am very happy with my dated Samsung which has been replaced by a newer model.

True, but its cheaper and is enough for most people even if they think they need some sort of electronic gadget. They want one, they seldom need one. Saw on some online site that a PDA is at the top of the list of things that people are likley to stop using after 6 months.

Smartphone? Not for me. I prefer having a bluetooth enabled PDA + bluetooth phone (my rig: HP ipaq 4150 + SonyEricsson T610).

Smartphones are not as good as a PDA for work and cumbersome as a cellular phone.

Cyrano those units I mentioned have full Palm OS.  They are just as good as any other Palm PDA.
Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity is worthless to me when I am out in the field or in the car.
If you want to talk about cumbersome, cumbersome is having to connect your PDA to your phone to get internet access!

Palm One Treo 600 looks promising if you need that kind of device.

I went on a golfing trip with one of my clients who had one of the Treo's, it was amazing what he could do with it from sending and recieving email to surfing the intardnet in the middle of the Ozarks.

I guess that depends on the rig, Funked.

With what I have, I just have to select connect, and within 3 seconds I'm connected to the internet, MSN Messenger, IExplorer, and all.

I just leave BT on in both devices and connection is almost 0 wait.

OK I misunderstood before.  You are getting IP connection on the phone and then sharing to the PDA via bluetooth.  Very cool.

I see what you mean.  I got a Palm for Xmas when I was in grad school and had no use for it and gave it away.
Now that I do real work it's different.  I'm always on a team and we use Outlook to keep our calendars and contacts and email etc in sync with other team members.  The PDA lets me have that information with me at all times and I can sync with my PC back in the office, even if I working on the roof of a building in another city.  Plus I get email, www, irc, aim, ym, msn, etc etc on it.  And games.  For me it replaces cell phone, laptop, appointment book, phone book and fits in my shirt pocket easily.  If I could only get GPS and an MP3 player on it I would be in heaven.
