Adjust bomber formations - Combat vs. Drop
« on: June 26, 2004, 03:31:56 AM »
Could it be possible to adjust the plane spread in the formation for the drop?  I dont want, while dropping thousand pounders, to drop them while in combat formation, as most of the blast effect of the outer two bombs is wasted [overkill on the same area].  With the option to adjust the spread to say 500 feet between planes, the amount of area covered by lethal blast would be increased.  I don't know  if the 8th Air Force did this on or after the IP on their bomb runs, but it would make sense, for a further spread formation would also be a harder flak target, and fewer fighters would have been encountered in the flak area around the target, giving less reason to stay in tight.

I agree with this.  Currently there is very little difference in the destructive power of a Ki-67 formation and a Lancaster formation when hitting strat targets.
