maybe just me?
« on: June 26, 2004, 09:47:02 PM »
hi all, long time ready first time poster (almost) :)

AH, good ways in some, quake in the other.

Honestly i like most of the changes, but this game has become a total FPS, its like anyother FPS only with planes.

I dislike the focus of land grab, though in any war there is always a front that either moves or falls back.  Like the idea of defending/attacking towns and factories influencing the "war."

I hate the never ending hoarde.  there is no way to stop it, killing a plane means nothing, they either come back in 10 minutes to attack, or reup immediatly if on home soil.

Furballs, bah i have seen hardly any furballs, what i have seen are hoardes of 109's, p51's, 190's etc.  could be just me, but my experience has been majority of people looking just to get easy kills so they can land a few kills and have everyone congratulate them on their fine sortie..lol

Kill the troops to stop the hoarde, lol.  Well in theory it makes since but for every 1 player who believes this there are at least 10 who would be happy to vulch planes until a goon can fly there, again to land xxx amount of kills and be congratulated on a sortie well flown.

I dunno, i enjoy playing, but honestly the only time i ever look to see who shot me down is if there was an actual fight involved.  Don't care about score at all, just fly for fun now

Maybe would like to see fighters in more realistic role, as defending bombers, or attacking as the case may be.  At any rate as it is now the game seems to lack purpose to me, no sense of being.  Wondering, what is the point of this game vs. 40$ for FB, more people?

just my thoughts, have vulched 20 people in yak9t, with 5 added air to air kills and have been given many wtgs, at same time, on seperate occassion, luckily shot down 2 gifted vets and no one cares, but those are the ones that count:)

, begin flame as if i said something bad about your mother.....now   lol, long post, sorry, just venting

I dont think Trippy is complaining about the fights. Seems to me he is speaking of the single dimensional play. "Correct me if im wrong on my assumption Trippy."  There doesnt seem to be anyway to strategically inflict misery on your opponent...I say bomb them back to the stoneage, but you just cant.

mosty correct Rhino, seems to be a complex problem.  How are you able to inflict damage on a country, impose penalties on getting shot down, and limit field operations without imposing on the ability of others to fly.

I am very sympathetic to those who have limited time to fly, and when they do want to fly have to face front line porkage of bases.

At the same time, this is, as I understand it, a WW2 sim.  Is truely a complex situation in which there seems to be no middle ground acceptable to any side.  Personally i like strat, though i don't consider porking fuel and limiting someone elses ability to play the game.

On the other hand, I can't stand getting banged.  As bish tonight it seemed to be an all out offensive by both the rooks and the knigts, and there is no counter check to this.  Killing troops doesn't work because most of the hoarde seems to enjoy vulching anyway.  At best fronts just stall.  troops die, FH don't stay down, no limit on planes, infinite amount can attempt to take off, plenty of vulching, and not much actual air combat.

Again, this is more like air quake than anything that resembles a sim.  I still play, will not quit because I enjoy flying with my squad and country.

i have just ordered my new vid card and i will be able to play in about a week or so. hopefully!

you make some very good points trippy.

A fellow spitV dweeb and I have decided to end this nonsense of vulching and hording etc etc ad nausium.

Redtop, myself and a few other select spit lovers (sounds like german porn) have created a squadron that will just fly spitfire mkV's in the role of CAP and bomber escort for a fellow bomber and jabbo squads. flying in a role playing sort of fashion, the 3 wings of the 'USMC + 71st spitfires' should combine to make the game more fun for us.

The well known 'USMC' squad, led by 'Meddog', i believe will be the jabbo and heavy strike force wing of this partnership.

The USMC 'Dambusters' (not sure who led by but with such notable bomber crews as 'tatertot' and 'triple-ninehundred' aka '999000') will be the bomber wing

and the '71st Spitfire squadron   *EAGLES*' (created and led by Redtop and myself) will be the fighter/escort wing.

ok, so my point is what?

basicaly we will be trying to add a sense of purpose and realism other wise lacking in senseless hordes and vulchers. we will fly as a squad and work on things such as formations and escort tactics.

in esence we will hopefully bring a new standard to our own gameplay and enjoyment and at the same time, create some strong friendships and good virtual memories.

i realise that some squads already incorporate this method of playing and i dont pretend to be breaking new ground here. BUT, if you are not enjoying the game as you think you deserve then find some way of role playing the game back to a fun level.

I agree with kevykev (RHIN0...how you doing squadie?) I really enjoy the game, however, I also enjoy strategic moves.  Maybe I am missing something in the gameplay but what are the benefits of long range bombing missions?  Do they actually make a difference in the overall strategic environment or are they just a sideshow for the bomber enthusiast?

I love well coordinated bomber missions with fighter escort.  I try and join up on any mission created involving this.   I am in awe of tight bomber formations providing mutual protection.  Unless there is a strategic outcome to the long haul bomber run, I dont forsee many of those in the future due to the the time invested needed to accomplish the mission coupled with no net gain to the war effort.

Again, I love the game and the friendships I have gained through it.  I will continue to play.  Maybe someone can help enlighten me to possible stragegic moves that will cater to that portion of the gameplay.

man, i'm on this bbs alot tonight.  Nice post mechanic, maybe i'm just starting to hit that "burn out" thing.  But truely the best thing about the game are the squads.  I fly in 9GIAP and honestly they are the reason i find enjoyment out of the game.  A great bunch of guys, and very good seasoned pilots as well.  Though everyone should have pride for their squad, and wish you guys the best of luck with yours
