MSFF2 return to center force too strong and XP
« on: June 27, 2004, 07:54:26 AM »
This only started happening under XP, worked fine in 98, but now when I set the forces for the MSFF2, after pressing the stick buttons a couple of times the forces go back to full, making it almost impossible to fly with as the return to centre force is wrist breaking.

I have read MS article Q321127 which seems to apply:

>>
SYMPTOMS
The feedback force setting in the SideWinder Force Feedback 2 game may change unexpectedly. This behavior may occur under the following conditions:
You set the feedback force in the SideWinder Force Feedback 2 game controller to low.

-or-
You turn the feedback force off.
The setting may work the first time that a button is pressed. However, on a subsequent button press, the force feedback setting may change. The setting may be switched to on or high.
MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft is aware of this issue. The issue has been confirmed to exist on systems running Windows XP with a Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 connected.
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2, when used with:
the operating system: Microsoft Windows XP
>>

, anyone figure out a workaround?

Thanks!

I have issues occasionally with mine.  The return forces disappear completely forcing me to fly with a limp noodle for a joystick.  I've surmised that it is most likely a USB enumeration error and have cured it by re-arranging the 8 or so USB devices I have.

As far as too strong a return force??  I've found mine to be
medium - I cannot change it regardless of what I set the SW
panel setting to, once I start the game medium is what I get.

Fortunately, it's just right.

I actually like the smoothness of the "limp noodle" (only in my joystick) so I leave the power cord unplugged on my Guam machine with the MSFF2.
