AH2: better, but worse.... for now
« on: June 27, 2004, 12:32:26 PM »
I absolutely love the way the planes fly in AH2, but gunnery, be it air to air, CV or GV, seems nearly impossible for me (so far). I find dive bombing far easier than it was before. Maybe it's because (according to HT, and I agree)the new flight model is more realistic.

But all the flying realism in the virtual world doesn't help if you can't hit the broad side of a barn. That's me right now. I even tried going back to basics and not firing until under D300 from dead 6 position... not one hit sprite.

Seems a lot of people are going to have to completely relearn the sim. For me, fighting isn't much fun right now, but I'm going to keep plugging away at it until I find the missing link.

Don't know if this will heip or not... But, what worked for me was to pull LESS lead than I did in AH1. Still can't hit a fargin plane flyin' straight and level....but then, I never could :D.

I think that people who were used to long range shots in AH, as easy as they were there, are having quite a difficult time right now to learn not to fire untill bellow 300, preferably even bellow 200.

Those of us who never and very rarely fired above 300 in AH don't have to get used to AH2 as much.

Give it time! You'll get there!

I didn't say I didn't like the new gunnery, I just said I can't seem to do it. Once I get the hang of it, I'm sure it will be just fine.

I have noticed absolutely no difference in aiming.  My old gunsight--which shows when the enemy is 300 yards and gives me the proper aim point at a certain amount of G's--still works fine.  I never was one to do much long-range shooting though.

I think I have noticed a slight difference in hitting power when I'm pulling G's; perhaps dispersion under G's is a bit different, or perhaps it isn't.

Gunnery hasn't changed that much, it is true. But the target's hit resolution has changed rather drastically. The wings are paper thin when you are a dead 6 view and are VERY hard to get hits on from almost any distance, particularly so for cannons. What did change WRT gunnery is the impact on a bullet's path of G-forces or AOA of your plane. Try relaxing the up elevator before firing at a breaking target.

Paulieb,

I'll tell you the same I told myself, & then everyone else who had the same problem.

Back to basics, grab a spit 5, get up close & personal, & relearn the guns, where the shoot, when to shoot, etc.

Then work yourself back up to your fav ride.

IMO ah2 = brand new game. Go back where you came from to get here & you'll pull it together.

Lots of us are still struggling, myself included.

A little time offline at the drones before heading to main also helps sharpen the eye. Gets you ready for action so to speak.

Hang with it. It's different, takes awhile to get used to, but I like it alot. Takes a couple of weeks to get a handle on. Even then it's harder then AH1. Get closer an work with it.

Mugs, take a couple weeks off bro, your ranting now.

Ya know guys, I never was a good ftr pilot in AH , I have a crappy bouncing stick that made good hits with limited ammo cannons hard to do.  So I learned planes like the F6f, Jug , and the 190 a5 .

I flew the F6f the other night with my limited fps, and had a blast. I loved watching spit 9 pilots flop and throw their planes outta trim trying to get those ' hizooka' kills.

I'm by no means gloating, but getting 3 spit 9s nd 2 La7s in my Hellcat with fps as low as 8, was great for me.  I now find that all the time spent in those 'lugs' are paying off.  One spit kill was taking his wing off from 600 with Cats 50 calls. Love this setup.

When I finish seting up my comp., tho, I'd like some help in ACM Ghost, when u have the time.

I agree entirely. It is clear that too many people got lazy with gamey tricks and setting up 600/800/1000yd shots and believed that "that's the way it was - oh my, aren't I a hotshot?".

If ever you have heard of AH critics in other games referring to AH's "laser gunnery", this is what they're talking about.

One key difference I have noticed is that shots fired from a loaded airframe don't stand much chance of hitting. In the past I seem to remember guys pulling what must have been 4G turns, spraying away and getting kills. That changed and even I had to make adjustments.

If you want gunnery practice, go offline. Spend an hour there as I did trying shots from different angles, different armament. The 30mm cannon on the 109G6/G10 is little different, but with that you always had to get to about 150 yards anyway.

Check convergences. Make sure you didn't set it to 800yds. :lol

my gunnery in ah2 is completely uneffected though i always waited to fire till point blank in ah1 anyway.

get closer to the target dweebs and you may hit it.

no more firing from a football field away and expecting sure hits.
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Wil...

I'm really not having a problem with it. I can still get hits on that spit trying to reverse too late at 350 in to 250. I do seem to see fewer critical hits though.

Not really sure, but, it seems that trajectories are a bit flatter than in AH. Which would explain why I now pull less lead.
