Depends on what you mean by "service"

It wasn't being used as a carrier anymore by the time the Japanese sank it.

Sorry Guys, Thats not the Langley. That is an Escort Carrier. Might be the long Island. The Langley was open hangered from bow to stern.

Right, it had been reclassified as aircraft transport or ferry when sunk in 1942 in the East Indies.
