Request concerning Chutes
« on: January 01, 2001, 07:11:00 PM »
This doesn’t personally affect me much since I very rarely bail but I really dislike chute-shooting.  I consider it the ultimate in poor sportsmanship in the MA.  IMO, things which tend to gently guide players towards more sportsmanlike behavior, will in the long run make this a game that is more enjoyable for all.

I am not suggesting that vast improvements will result in AH if this gets implemented.  This really has nothing to do with history or realism.  It is just a matter of personal preference.

I know some people are going to respond here and attempt to justify killing chutes (i.e. he was a SPY <gasp> ).  Frankly, I don’t care and you are not going to convince me that this is anything but crappy behavior that needlessly increases hostility in the MA and reduces enjoyment in what is a GAME.

Pyro, please consider adding some small risk or penalty for chute-shooting.  One thing you can do is to make all chute Icons just a white word CHUTE; no friendly ID, country color or symbol.  i.e. The intent is to make the nationality of a chute ambiguous (especially in the chaos of a dogfight).  It would amuse me greatly to occasionally see chute-shooters suffer from Kill-Shooter.  Secondly, perhaps kill-shooter could be randomly turned on for enemy chutes some portion of the time.  If these two were combined, then someone who wanted to kill a chute might not be sure that it was enemy and further would know that they ran some risk of Kill-Shooter even if it was.

I kind of like the idea. On the other hand if they shoot my chute they waste ammo for no real gain that wont be fired at my buddy. But I do like the idea of the unmarked shoot.

I would like a killshooter dot command that I can use if I think the guy shooting my airplane might be a chute shooter, then I could turn it on and he would be surprised and I will be guaranteed not to be shot in my chute.

I promise not to shoot his chute.

Hit where it hurts... How about one chute kill gives you -10 perk points. Kill chutes and you will never fly uberplanes. Easy to do and could help arena atmosphere a bit.

Awww... Come on....
I shoot chutes, your right IT IS JUST A GAME!!! get over it. Chute shooting hardly leads to poor sportsmanship, or any real life problems. and it IS part of the game.

I really hated chute shooters for a while. Later on I learned of a tactic that just might be of more use in this version than in the last. It's called a forward observer. An enemy player bails near you field. You let him go thinking he'll just replane. Wrong. He's still there talking to his budds and calling out corrections for shell fire, location of defensive vehicles and field damage conditions. He is helping to flatten your field. For that reason I'll shoot a chute near any friendly base or even the fleet. It ain't personal, just don't want you talking to your side while scoping out our side.

If that offends you, too bad. Come find me online and shoot me.

I don't shoot chutes... Unless I feel like it for whatever reason. I rarely do but when I do I LIKE IT!! There is generally a good reason. (ei: A guy that just shot my buddys chute... A guy that I feel is spying... And lastly If he deliberatly spins .. repeatedly HO's, Flops, uses AltS or if I feel he's a score monger from the Alto sphere. If you don't want to die in a chute.. don't bail! Maybe HTC should just count any bail as a DEATH in multiplier ..then it wouldn't bother ya!!! Thats really the point isn't it

POP low and exit fast.. if that doesn't do it you didn't earn you bail!

How about the guy in the chute have a fighting chance?  Weren't most equipmed with a pistol?  Sure, the odds of hitting someone bent on blasting your chute with a pistol is low.

But what if you DID?

And what if he bailed near you.  A pistol fight to the death all the way down?

Hmm, interesting

Another idea is to have no Icons at all shown for chutes.

hey how about we put flowers in the end of our guns?

personally i dont shoot chutes because i once saw an interveiw with an american pilot who described a german shooting bomber crews in their chutes. His eyes glazed over with something akin to pure hatred and disgust and then went on to describe how he shot the 'dirty bastard' down but made sure he didnt destroy his plane.Sure enough the german pilot bailed and he said he flew around him lined up and fired his mg's at him
'.50 cals sure make a mess of a guy in a chute' 'and that was that'.
His fellow fighter pilots saw him shooting him and thought he'd gone crazy until he later explained what had happened.
To see how emotional this story made this guy some 50 years after the event would bring home what this sort of thing shows about our characters.
I dont shoot chutes i prefer to buzz em and <S> my enemies
but hey this is a game you can do whatever you like
