Need help getting higher framerates
« on: June 28, 2004, 04:15:54 PM »
Hi Guys,

I used to have framerates around 70FPS with AH1 but now on AH2 37 seems to be my max. Any tweaking advice you can give on the following system specs?

Processor:          AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1900+ 1470 MHz
BIOS:               Phoenix Technologies 03/29/04
Bus Type:           PCI
Memory:             511 MB  (42% Utilized)
Video:              1152x864 in 32-Bit Color, NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X Ver. 4.0
OS:                   Windows 98SE
SB:                    SB PCI512

Thanks!

sorry to say, its time for a new video card. I don't think you'll be able to get good FRs with a 32 meg card. I got 64 meg card with all my sliders to the lower end and do only ok in furballs. Saving my pennies for a new card myself

With the sliders at default I'm only getting 29 fps. I just installed a new NVIDIA 5200 with 128megs. It has to get better than this doen't it?

go to nvidia to get the newest drivers for the card...don't use the disk. Sometimes reinstalling DX9 after upgrading vid card helps a ton too

Hi Guys,

The NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X is a 64 Meg Card. I have the newest NVIDIA drivers and I am currently running 256 textures (I really don't want to drop below that) in 1024x768 mode.

Any help regarding:
AGP aperture size (didn't see much difference between 64 and 128 MB - what's optimal for this game/system?
System tweaks? Anyone got a similar system getting higher rates?

Thanks!

37fps is more than enough. But what's your lowest frame rate. That's the one that counts.

Depends on how long I've been flying and the number of objects. In a furball it usually drops to around 23, which is kinda unusable and occasionally will freeze up entirely for a few seconds.

Before my new box I was runnin a GeForce 2 pro and your framerates are about what I was getting. Occasional studders when first loading new textures.

That's prolly about all you can expect out of the card. With 512 of memory you can use the 128 aperture but like you, I've never seen a difference.

New box running the Chaintech FX5900XT Nvidia 128meg card, about 175 at newegg. No problems.
