2 sided map...

DOES NOT WORK!!

I can't believe some of you still think this would improve the balance in the arena. One team will always be outnumbered, with one big mass pretty much moving at will throughout the map wipin the little guys out.
A v A DOES NOT WORK, if all aircraft were created equal, mebbe it wouldn't be too bad, but then again its 2 sides again, 1 team will always be outnumbered.  aw3 did an AvA rollin planeset arena for awhile, perhaps they still do...  The planeset was divided into early, mid, late.  Early, the LW steamrolled, mid the allies persevered, late the allies thoroughly crushed the LW.
Once players became aware of which side had the better aircraft for the era, they would switch sides compounding the problem.

The Axis never had heavy bombers, they never had superior high altitude interceptors(in numbers to make a difference(262))  They won't in a ww2 sim.

I wasn't aware that this idea had been raised again BUT

Imbalance between sides?  Hmmm now what if perk points were related to the numbers in the arena?  Say there were 100 online, 70 on Side 'A' against 30 on side 'B'.

So a guy from side A gets a kill.  His normal perk points would be say, 5 points for the kill.

But now he gets 5 * 30/70 = 2.14 perk points

A guy from side B gets a kill, and instead of his usual 5 perk points he receives 5 * 70/30 = 11.66 perk points.

Perking may be a way of not only ensuring that a wide range of aircraft are in use, but also that arena numbers are more in balance.

In any event, side imbalance exists whether we have a 2 sided arena, 3 sided arena or 6 sided arena.  There will ALWAYS be one side that outnumbers the other, and there will ALWAYS be sides which inadvertently gang up against a common foe.
