Patch 5 unplayable
« on: July 02, 2004, 09:07:57 PM »
Patch 4 was pretty smooth but patch 5 has continuous (at least 1 every 10 seconds, more frequent when fighting) mini freezes and 2 ctds in half an hour. I had already cranked down my audio acceleration.

Specs:

WinXP Pro
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
512MB Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro
Latest drivers

Eagerly awaiting patch 6.

Dunno if the "test" version works with post patch 5 arena, will give it a try.

I couldn't get it too, it wanted to upgrade to patch 5, even though patch 5 was already installed........

Having same problems with patch 5 as previous patches...redrawing landscape until like 4 k away from field.........
terrain redrawing off and on, with glass terrain....frame rate is higher by about 10 once air borne above 4 or 5 k alt..but drops below high 20's/low 30's now when flying over a base with little action drops down to near 10 at times gets to be unplayable..before could maintain around 27+ when low on deck over base in heavy action......

Patch 5 is worse than Patch 4 for me now

win98se ( all uptodate drivers )
athlon XP1700+
Ati Radeon 9000 64 meg DDR ( cat 4.3 drivers - most up to date for win98/ME)
256 meg ddr PC2700 mem
dx9b ( reports all working properly )
1024x768 32 bit ( refresh set to 120 )
HP P1100 21" Monitor
max texture default setting 256 meg
all sliders set for performance now

Patch 5 seems to have helped many while making the game unplayable for others. I'm thinking we may need two versions until you guys get this ironed out.

Parked at a busy field for 10 minutes and then rolled. Framerate when flying within ground detail 25 to 35. Once at altitude 60. One on four fight off a enemy base 25 to 35 with no studders, hitches or freezes.

Runnin good, with a damn good fight to boot.

Patch 5 slow and erratic for me while previous patches were okay.  Previous framerates in 40s and 50s decline to 20s and 30s with Patch 5.  Several freezes.  Several fights unplayable esp. low alt.

very similar problems to those already mentioned. in addition, looking around using the hat switch causes a momentary freeze, same when attacking ground vehicles/targets. been really solid till patch 3 or 4, then definite decline in video quality/speed with most recent patch. i am, however, experiencing fewer CTDs, and have had only 1 freeze since patch 5.   wish i could offer some suggestions.

win xp pro on...
AMD 2400 on asus a7n8x-x mobo
512mb pc 2700 ram
nvidia fx 5200 256mb agp8 running omega 53.03 drivers
sb pci 128 soundcard (yeah, i know, dinosaur)
40 gig hdd,  recently defragged, newest avail drivers on about everything (afaik)

hope you guys get this figured out soon. in the meantime, i'll try not to whine too much =/

Got this from another post by Hitech:

1. Reboot system
2. Make sure your in Shift F1 or SHift F2 view range.
3. Delete your cach folder.
4. Double check 512 max texture size or lower.
5. For a test if you are running any fire wall software , shut it down, do not just disable it,make sure it has been shut down.
6. Make sure all your video card settings are defaults in the windows configuration.

i did all this plus used enditall.
FR went up about 20fps
I'm thinking its the firewall but, maybe cache deletion helped as well
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

The issue is NOT framerate.
« Reply #13 on: July 03, 2004, 05:53:19 PM »
Hell, I get good frame rates.  In the tower, 110 or so, usually.  The issue is the stutters and microfreezes.  During the microfreeze, the frame rate never changes---'cause the screen is frozen.

>> During the microfreeze, the frame rate never changes---'cause the screen is frozen.<<

Identical problem here. Frame rates are no problem 70-75 fps all the time. Its the micro freezes when getting close to another plane.

So far, I've made sure I have the latest video drivers, defragged the hard drive and went through the list HT posted (see Wildcards post).

In another post HT also suggested making sure sound acceleration was set down 1 notch from max. That is looking promising but can't get online long enough to test it till later this evening. It eliminated a lot of the stutter offline.

But just thought I'd throw that out - check your sound settings.
