Video card settings questions
« on: July 03, 2004, 06:23:09 PM »
Ok O know Vsink should be on.
But untill I turned it on it was setr to off but application controled. Now its simply ON
Hasnt seemed to have any adverse effects on anything so I will leave that as it is for now.
Questions are in the other settings.
What do they do? (in laymans terms please)
And what should they be set at. Or I should say what is the best setting for them
this is for the
128MB PNY Verto nVidia GeFORCE FX 5200 AGP (with latest drivers as of  5/26/04

these first two it would seem you can change the setting and still have it application controled

Antialiasing,? Options are Off, 2X, 2XQ, 4X, 6XS, And 8X

Anistropic filtering?- options are, Off, 2X, 4X, 8X

Image Settings? Options High Performance, Perfomance, Quality

Force Mipmaps? Options, None, Bilinear, trilinear

Colorformant texture Clamps? Off or On?  (default is "ON")

I leave the aliasing and those other settings on default. As for Vsync.. It sychronizes the refresh rate of the monitor and video card. Thus the video card does not have to work as hard. Vsync allows the video card to have a steady output while the monitor will not exceed a certain refresh rate (exp. 85hz). So it basically lets the video card relax, yet give enough output for better performance without over heating or something. :D

So your refresh rate will not go above what you set it as, and will always be below or at the highest point. Even if it is below the highest point,  you are still getting good performance.

That answer one of your questions?
