My brother stopped racing a few years ago, just one season short of becoming a pro, because of the drug thing.
His personal trainer was one of the clean guys, but team trainers and doctors just poured chemicals down the throats of those kids.
He was the strongest guy in his team, but after three or four incidents because his refusal to ingest unnamed pills or have the contents of unlabelled vials injected, they made clear that he had no future in the sport, he was a "rebel" and "non-competitive".
He was fortunate, he was doing ok with his University studies, some other kids leave everything for the sport and are desperate.
There are clean people in the sport, but they are very few and powerless, therefore hopeless.
